Looks like others have had this problem and have fixed it by enabling UPnP on the router. I've never tried this myself as I don't play scrabulous--or other games, mostly for lack of time...

Good luck!

Why is my online play sputtering

With the limited information you have given me, I do believe it is because you're having connection issues, probably due to something downloading, or your connection is just plain being overused while you play.
Some ways to solve this can be to stop any downloading while playing, check all your computers and see if any torrenting programs are running.

Another is to open your ports on your router, and to initiate UPNP (universal plug and play).
From the official Xbox 360 Port Forwarding help center:
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/connecting/network-ports-used-xbox-live

Xbox Live requires the following ports to be open:
  • Port 88 (UDP)
  • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 80 (TCP)
Note If you cannot chat with someone using Video Kinect, you might need to open port 1863 (UDP and TCP).

The link also contains information on how to find out who manufactures your router, which you will need to know in order to find the proper way to change the settings.

Can't Open Ports in my Router

Make sure that you set or assign a static IP to your playstation first through your dlink. This would ensure that your playstation would have its own ip address and wont change each time you restart your playstation. Once you have that fixed then you could use the virtual server and set it to open all ports for your playstation's ip address. If it still did not work then instead of using virtual server, try setting your Playstation as a demilitarized zone. If that still did not work I think it would be best to contact your ISP.

It works fine untail I want to play Asherons Call a MS game, firewall has locked me out, how do I shut off the firewall. tyvm Ken

What you want to do is "open ports" in your firewall. This is simple if you have admin access to your router. Find the section for "port forwarding" and add ports that your game require. Typically, there is a TCP port and a UDP port. The UDP is for broadcasting type messages to/from your fellow gamers. The TCP port is usually for the game server. Check with your game instructions -- or you can probably get the answer with a google search string of "game ports Asherons Call" and I would bet it will give you exactly the settings for your router.

Here ya go (I did the google search). It appears that it only requres the UDP port. I would open all of these unless you find out more detail that you can close some ports (never leave a port open that you don't know or don't need -- it is a hackers door to your computer).
9000 UDP Asheron's Call game
9010 UDP Asheron's Call game 9011 UDP Asheron's Call game 9012 UDP Asheron's Call game 9013 UDP Asheron's Call game

Good luck.

Change NAT to open

First make sure your security type on the router is WEP-Personal. You may need to get the port range for that game or manufacturer. Then enter them in to the gaming tab. This will keep ports open all the time. NAT 2 is acceptable but you want NAT 1. Some internet connections cannot get NAT1.reply if you need further assistance

Tcp port 24000-24100

I would check your router's port forwarding settings and also make sure you have those ports listed in your windows firewall exceptions list.

Try these steps:

Let me know if that helps.

Tcp port 24000-24100

Hi Sorry to hear you are having problems,
MacOS 10.4 has a firewall built into it ( Of course all MacOS X versions have firewalls ) that can have ports opened on it. You say it was working fine yesterday, did you change anything ?
Fastest and easiest way to open ALL TCP/IP ports is to turn off your FireWall for the time you are playing then re-activate it when you're done.
This can be done in the sharing pane of the System preferences, choose firewall and turn it OFF.
You could of course open just the ports 24000-24100 in the same preference pane...
But chances are it might be something else if you did not modify your system since yesterday.
Are you on the same network as yesterday? Are you able to play on another network ?

Was workin now not

You are having port issue with your router. If you could careless about playing the online content just sign out of the PSN and the game will work fine. If you want the online content/games you need to open/forward a lot of ports on your router. I had the same problem. The ports required are as follows: Port type: TCP: 9293; 6358; 25; 110; 80; 443; 5223; 10070-10080; 50000-65535*. Port type: UDP: 3074; 3075; 3658; 3478; 3479; 6000-6999; 7000; 50000-65535*. If you don't know how to open/forward ports call the router manufacturer and ask. *some routers will only let you enter 65534, but try 65535 first.

Problem with udp port

check whether the port numbers are opened for that particular game that you are trying to play
if not go to the router manager i.e. the home page of the router that you have and try to open the ports
Also known as port forwarding
if u dont know the ports that you want for a particular game
U can goto www.portforward.com and chek out the ports available for games...
