Question about Kodak EasyShare V1003 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Kodak V1003 A few weeks ago, shortly after I'd taken a pic, the lens refused to retract and the camera switched off. It has never been dropped or had anything spilled on it. Strangely, when I press the button furthest left the camera comes on, allows me to view pictures on the card, set the time etc - everything except take pictures. Again when I try to switch off, the lens does not retract. Does this not suggest a software glitch of some kind?

No, unfortunately that is a problem with the hardware, software would not prevent the lens from retracting.

If it is within manufacturer's warranty (usually 1 year) take it to any Best Buy they will send it out to the mfg for you to have it repaired, also you can pay if it is out of warranty.

Good Luck!

Sounds like a lens error. Look for sand particles around the gaps of the lens barrel (a single particle can jam it). Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Kodak M340 lens extends then retracts immediately

I had the same problem after a day at the beach. What I did was get a can of compressed air (from the computer section) and blow air around the lens as I repeatedly turned it on. It took about five cycles, but I eventually cleared whatever was preventing the lens from fully opening.

Good luck.

The lens of my kodak easyshare V1003 is not working when i turned it on....

Please clarify you issue. Does the lens stick? Does is refuse to retract? does it switch off?

If it switches off Try the following if any other listed faults a repair is needed:

Make sure that you are installing a fresh/ full charge battery
Remove the memory card and the battery
Clean the metal contacts on the battery using a clean cloth
Use the camera w/o the memory card

Pls test with an alt. batt.
If you do not have access to a dif. battery.
Pls. take the batt out of the camera. Insert the charger into the unit from the main socket and turn the camera on. If the camera works you will need to replace the batt. If not you will need to order a No power repair.

I purchased my V1003 in the Fall of 2007. Was pleased with its performance. A few weeks ago, I inadvertently dropped it overboard. I retreived it before it sunk but it was virtually submerged. It is...

It would be better to replace the camera.

But here are some things that couldn't hurt.

1.Remove battery get some rubbing alcohol 90pcnt if possible. (not the green stuff)
2.) Batteries may be shot
3.) Soak entire camera in rubbing alcohol
to disipate the water. soak for about 10 minutes

4.) remove from alcohol then let dry for a day or 2 blow dry first to get most of alcohol dry then pack in silica gel (stuff that comes in little packets in shoes and leather jackets

HOPE For the best.. or buy a new camera

Check your lens. Clean with soft cloth they sell at most camera stores. If this does not resolve. You should bring it back to the store if its only 3 months they will give you hassle but its worth if for working camera

Kodak dx6440 wont power up lens wont and retract

I have the same/similar problem. I could hear the camera attempting to retract the lens. Camera shut down after timeout.

Disassembled camera & found two teeth missing from plastic gear in gearbox attached to lens motor. Don't know yet if part(s) are available.

Camera had light use. Patheticly short life & that Kodak didn't use stronger nylon gears. Bought a barely use Kodak P880 recently, & the autofocus died shortly after. Web search showed others had same failure. I'll never buy another Kodak camera.
