Try restarting the whole equipment and see if devices pair together fine on startup.

There is no master power button the transmitter, it automatically goes on when you plug it in. I tried the power buttons on the speakers and restarted the whole system... no help

Can anyone tell me if another generic transmitter will work with the speakers? Because the speakers are perfectly fine, hate to trash the whole system because of one piece

  • Rebekahpd Jul 21, 2008

I'm well aware of Sharper Image's issues, but that isn't really helping me. Besides these speakers were ACTUALLY... AWESOME! I've had them for over two years, and they worked great. I'm trying to figure out if I have to trash the whole system just because the transmitter is dead. I tried opening it up, but I can't tell if anything is fixable. I'm looking for something to replace JUST that one part. Bose speakers are great but they are about 4 times the price as well

yes, if it is a 900MHZ transmitter it will work. I just had that problem, looked every where for an antenna and could only find 2. one was out of stock and didn't know when it would be avalable if ever and the other was 29 bucks. i ended up buying speakers from Rakuten @ BUY.COM. Got the same speakers i have with a transmitter that will ALSO play my IPod for 100 bucks. received them now i have 4 speakers that will play the IPOD too.. if you're going to spend 29 bucks for the transmitter go 70 more and get everything above. good luck. Also there was NO SHIPPIN CHARGE either. 100 bucks even.......

Hello Rebekahpd,

The advice I am going to give you is repair advice. First of all if the transmitter is bad, since these types of unit usually use a monolithic IC (Integrated Circuit) as the transmitter with just biasing components. This would mean in order to replace the transmitter you would have to replace the chip itself. I would like to know if this is the case, please post a photo of the inside of the unit. This will allow me to determine if the transmitter is a monolithic IC or if it uses transmitter sections (Oscillator, mixer, audio stage, pre-emphasis circuit, pre amp, and power output amplifier). Once we determine what format the sepakers are in we can then begin troubleshooting. This is how would hope you are willing to approach this:

1) determine if transmitter circuit is monolithic or sectionalized

2) determine which section of the transmitter is defective, check voltage levels, and determine if the oscillator and mixer are working.

3) determine if audio, and amplifier circuits are working.

4) signal injection and tracing.

5) Tuning for output levels (FCC has rules about these kind of things).

Now my question to you is: Do you have a background in Electronics? I ask this because this will dictate if I can use certain terms and have you know what I am talking about, also it gives you a chance to decide if you want to have these speakers repaired or do you want to do it yourself (which I advise against, the whole FCC thing again).

OK the starting point is item #1 post the picture of the inside of the transmitter.

Thank you,

Shuttle83

Unfortunately i dont think is at reasonable cost any atempt to repair. I think these transmitters receivers produced as a tuned pair only.

The question is: does the signal light indicate transmission or does it light up when an input signal is detected? Double check to be sure that a signal is getting to the transmitter. If it is, check the input section of the transmitter. I would concentrate on the input side rather than the transmitter side. Can you describe what "parts" appear to be close to the input? With some description, I can point out the most likely parts.

Have you tried plugging it into another audio source IE: your computer, mp3 player / cd player, etc?

They went bankrupt because their so called air cleaner weren't cleaning anything in fact there were studies conducted that it was doing the end user more harm then good.

Has Sharper Image took the time to read the EPA research on ionizers in the first place, they could have save themselves a great deal of trouble.

It looks like your out of luck getting it fixed but finding a replacement shouldn't be a problem.

I believe Bose makes a similar product.

I remember when we sold these at circuit city. Most likely it is now defective. You could look around for used ones but I would recommend replacement as you can get a great set for about a 100$.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lee

Try resetting the unit , the master power button also acts to reset the operation of the reminder to default settings by pushing the button for more than approximately four seconds.

Hope that helps........

900MHz wireless speakers

They use a couple of wall wart type transformers. You'll need to run power cable (armoured is best for outdoor use) and then install a couple of waterproof boxes large enough to house the mains cable power sockets and the transformers.

TBH, that's more trouble than it's worth for a pair of $90 speakers from the Sharper Image catalogue. These are more your temporary install on the pattio kind of deal.

Sharper image indoor/outdoor wireless speakers and transmitter has no audio.

First, determine if the TV device is putting out sound by plugging in a headphone into the audio out of the TV. If audio is there then the
transmitter and wireless speakers system may be at fault.
You can also plug in a CD player playing a disc into the transmitter to see if that source then transmits the audio.

You need to connect a stereo out from the amplifier to the transmitter for the speaker. I believe the speaker unit comes with the required adapters which will probably be rca/phono's to stereo mini-jack.

I have a set of Wireless Acoustic Research speakers. I recently came home from college and the transmitter (connected to the television) does not work. I've tried everything from trying a different outlet...

Try using a different source than your television. If it works, then there's an issue with the output of the TV. However, if you use the same cables as you were using with the TV, they may be bad. Try using another device with a different set of cables to plug into the transmitter, which should help identify where your problem really is. Please rate my answer, thanks.

AR Wirells Speak Transmitter Stopped Working

Hi there ,

Let me know if you did the steps below, then we can proceed form there:

Try unplugging the transmitter from power adapter, if it also has batteries remove them. Also unplug transmitter audio cable.

Then remove batteries/unplug adapters from speakers.

Wait few minutes and reconnect the system.

This is a proper hard reset, and can fix minor problems.

If when you re connect the transmitter does not glow, or you do not have sound on one or both channels then there is a fault.

Check the transmitter audio cable, a short in there can cause troubles.

Do not restart them with the button, that won't reset settings, unplug everything from power for 5 minutes and plug them back.
