Mine does the same thing, I think it's because of the settings to "find fastest route". I just ignore what it says and go the way I choose, it recalculates the route and all is well.

Hi, i got a problem with my tomtom one XL , when i choose the depart and destination id i can't see the roads..the pages of roods its blue

you have to select a map of your region, sounds like you have a map of somewhere else selected , which is why it is showing no roads, as it cant lock on to any as the map is the wrong one. click on the screen then click on prefrences and click on maps then switch map and choose the map for your region

Was going north and the map said i was going south

Are you sure you were heading north at that particular time?
Gps show your direction at that moment and time. Just because your road is going north does not mean that the road is always going north, sometimes they change directions to go around obstacles that were in the way of the road design, IE mountain, town, river.
The sign for the highway may say your are heading north when in actuality you are heading south to go around something.

The gps will not take into consideration the curve of the road, it just tells you the direction you are heading. Hope this helps.

Was just given a TomTom and car adappter to use on my trip from MI to MD. I've never used a GPS and no manual was included how to program it from start to final destination

The TomTom only needs for you to enter your destination address. Once that's in, you're ready to go. Along your route you can tap the center of the screen to find POINTS OF INTEREST such as FOOD, LODGING, etc...but will retain destination info 'til either cleared or changed to new destination.

To enter your destination, tap center of screen. There you choose house address, business address or city's center. If you choose street address screen opens to:keyboard. Type in destination State, ie; Maryland. Once you've typed state, hit DONE in bottom right corner. The screen then goes to CITY. Type in destination city then hit done again. Follow the same steps for STREET NAME & HOUSE #. Click DONE & CONTINUE as prompted. TomTom will then target your location and you're ready to hit the road. It will show you your distance and time (ETA). It will also show you the speed limit where you are and the actual speed you are going.

When you pull over for gas, food, lodging, shopping, sight-seeing or whatever, it will automatically account for this and will continuously update your coordinates to get you back to the highway/road you need to be on. And when you're ready to come back to MI all you have to do is hit the home icon and it will automatically map your trip back.(Home is - or should be - set to the home address of the owner of the GPS).

All-in-All it is user friendly and very simple to use.

If you need additional info, please don't hesitate to ask.

I hope this info was helpful to you. Good Luck!
Have a great trip and drive safely. :-)

I am very disappointed with the 8400 it is not accurate going up north from Cambridgeit tells you to goo through Otorohanga which is is an hour south where we should be going North it is a waster of good...

I assume that you mean when you ask it to PLOT THE ROUTE to your destination, it is sending you the LONG WAY not the most direct way.
GPS algorithms for determining the path that should take you to your destination, usually leave a lot to be desired. If you can live without the turn-for-turn directions, you may find that your trips end up being more efficient, and can save you gas and time.

Latitude is N or S, longitude is E or W, correct.

When entering degrees, minutes and seconds, you dont have to type the double apostrophe at the end off seconds, the device will understand...

ALT and LONG can also be seen as decimal degrees,
as in your case N48.87329 E8.6923
The TT device understands them both, just type them in....

Hello Mk 1,

It appears TomTom does have maps of South Africa available. To purchase and download one go to the TomTom Maps Store website and then select your GPS model and the map you are interested in.
