Battery light came on a couple of days ago. Last night it started and as it was going the radio stopped working and the engine was reving as if stuck in 2nd gear. After shutting off the van it would not restart. Took the new battery out and charged it and put it back in. Turn the key and only get a click. Any ideas?

Problem on battery light came on, loose belt tension. power is out so all part will not work. and check the battery again, make sure it was fully charge.

Check all the interior lights in the truck, look at the visors which are the single biggest cayuse of the battery drain, look at night. Also Have the batteries tested, a shorted cell will draw them down as well. Never overlook the obvious.
I'd take it to any good parts store (autozone, advance, etc..) and have them do a FREE charging system test and load test your battery. Almost sounds like your alternator is not charging or starting to go bad (not charging at full capacity)
hi when the engine light come on engine computer detect problem in the engine. I would like to advice you to scan the computer it can be sensors. It can be EGR is blocked also air flow mas sensor.
Find a car-repair work shop which is using diagnostic equipment to solve problem.
what probley happened the alternator started to heat up alittle to much and caused the belt to spin on the pulley i would go ahead and get the alternator replaaced as soon as possible. as for the lights dimming and the gauges not working you was running off your battery making the vehicle mess up i would also get your battery checked while your at it.
Take it back the mechanic and tell him what you indicated here. He will have a problem determining the problem if he can not duplicate it, but it will put him on notice that something is not right. Done properly, he will take a greater interest in helping to find the problem, which may have nothing to do with the work performed so far.
