I just bought DYNEX card reader and cannot figure out how to take off write protection lock because I need to put new pictures on it and it won't let me because of write protection lock

Did you use the safely remove hardware icon your computer before you took the card out? Might be damaged.. copy them to your computer atleast, the card can be replaced if its bad.

Usually on the "thumb" or "pen" drive there is a small switch that locks and unlocks the drive so you can protect data. If you need further assistance let me know.

Hi due to so many questions asked about this here it is. How to deal with memory card locked/write protected error.






SOLUTION 1 - Unlock the memory card.

There is a Lock switch on the left side of the SD card. Make sure the Lock switch is slid up (unlock position). You will not be able to modify or delete the contents on the memory card if it is locked.



SOLUTION 2 - Toggle the lock switch.

If the lock switch is not on lock:
1. Slide the switch up and down. Repeat this 3 times.
2. Let it stay on the Lock position for 30 seconds.
3. Slide the switch up to unlock the card.
4. Try to transfer files into the device.


For non-SD cards: Format the card

The data on the memory card may be corrupted.

WARNING: Formatting will delete all the files in the device. Backup all your data before formatting.

You didn't specify what type of card, so I'll assume it's either an SD or an SDHC card.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

This device doesn't need any software to work - al you need to do is to plug it it an USB plug and it will be automatically recognized as a new external hard disk. To use it all you need to do is to put a card in it and copy/paste to and from it all the files you want.

Put the memory-card into the card-reader.
Connect the card-reader to the computer.
Watch the "desktop" for a new icon to appear, representing a "removable-disk-drive".
Double-click on the icon to open the folder.
Drag-and-drag music files from your computer into the folder that you just opened.

Use a separate card reader to download your pics. Then, you can format the card in the camera to get it to work properly.

see for the lock at the edge .if its in a lock position release it or adjust it somewhere in between n it will read

there is a write protection lock, just push it and unlock it.

there are many things you can do to remove write protection but you have to give rating to me. Here is the first one 1.)go to MY COMPUTER 2.)right click on MMC drive 3.)click on eject. 4.)remove MMC form card reader 5.)again put it back (if at once it didn't worked try again step{2,3,4}
second method is: sometimes your USB port locks it try some other USB port & then put the MMC in memory card. pls rate me thank you
