Dell Laptop Battery

I am about to go on a bus trip and I will be taking my laptop. It is a 12 hr. ride. I know that my laptop battery is only going to last about 4 hrs. I will be accessing the Internet on it and watching DVDs. I need to know if there is a power source I can purchase to provide me with more battery life; or is the only option is to purchase an extra battery?

Another battery is your only option. Check with the bus service to see if they have outlets at the seats. I know that a few bus companies are providing outlets on their buses for customers with laptops and other devices.

Watching dvd reduces the the battery power especially when its uesd simultanously with other computer application that may reduce the hrs but since your mobile you need a portable device, and the option is to purchase another battery with more Ampere Hour (AH)rating that will last for longer hours more than 4hrs

How do I determine the battery pinouts for my Dell Inspiron 1526

the pin outs for the batteries in general are:
1 +Batt - Battery output voltage
2 SMB_SDA - System management Bus Serial data
3 SMB_SCL- system managemant bus Serial Clock
4 Batt_temp - Battery temperature monitor
5 battery_present or Battery ID
6 GND - ground

the SMB_SDA & SMB_SCL are used by IO controller chip in mainboard to communicate with the battery( battery type , charge level), and you can not use other model laptop batteries because it will not match with the bios whitelisted battery type.
no way you can fake the battery, instead you can flash the bios by modifying the flashing programs config.ini file so that it ignores the battery

My dell pa 12 won?t start ?

When i start my dell pa 12up and it takes 10 mins to load to windows XP, , when the windowsloading screen comes up the FANS go crazy. I then wait till i’m at thedesktop at which point i immediately shut down the pa 12(which takes afurther 7 mins) while the FANs are going crazy.

answer :

Now if i start the pa 12 again it works normally.

I had to do this procedure everyday, untill today when i switched the pa 12 on, waited till the desktop appaered and i removed the battery while the pa 12 was on..
17028ca.jpg
Now when i switch the pa 12 on it powers up but i’m not getting anything on the screen

First try a different AC adapter (such as :pa 10 ac adapter)

If no change then the issue is the motherboard. Often the AC adapter will fail then the battery discharges and you get the symptoms youdescribe.
SO AC adapter then MB

It shows no power on your laptop but it shows you the dvd player led comes on then off.

I would suggest try the following:

1. Remove laptop battery, optical drive, hard drive and ram. Remove external peripherals as well.

2. Make sure AC Adapter is not yet connected to the laptop. Pressand hold on the laptop’s power button for 10 seconds to drain the powerflea.

3. Connect the AC Adapter to a known good power outlet, check ACAdapter power LED if it is on. Try to sense if AC Adapter is not makinga bit of noise when it is plugin to the wall power outlet.

4. Connect now the AC Adapter (hp dv6000 ac adapter)tothe laptop. Check if AC Adapter LED stays on when it is connected tothe laptop. If the LED stays on means the AC Adapter is fine. If the ACAdapter LED turned off check the AC Adapter pin that goes to the laptopAC socket if it is loose.

5. If laptop AC Adapter stays on after connecting to the laptop try topower on laptop. If no power LED comes on then this is motherboardproblem.

6. Before replacing the motherboard there is one checking needs todo. If you can open your laptop bottom part then good, do this whenlaptop is not connected to any power source. Try to reseat the laptopCMOS battery then try to power on laptop after, if still fails thenreplace motherboard. I hope this helps.

Every time I tried booting, I get almost 2/3 the way through the beginning screen with the Dell Logo then stop and go to a blank screen with the message "Time-of-day-clock Stopped". I tried...

This is the solution from dell website :"Connect your computer to an electrical outlet to charge the battery. If the problem persists, call Dell for technical assistance". if laptop have warrenty then take it to DELL. if no warrenty, if you know how to open laptop , just replace the CMOS battery. or take out the CMOS battery for minute or two, and put it back. try both methods. if problem persists take it to DELL. best of luck..

the batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery

How long do I have to put a new Vostro 1015 on charge before I start using it?

You can use it as soon as you plug it into the mains.
You may need to give it a 12 hr charge the first time before you use it on battery.
DO NOT use the laptop constantly plugged in, this will damage the battery.
Charge the battery and then use it on battery as much as possible

Have battery and plug in for laptop. the laptop begin to start with the Dell page, then shuts off. the battery icon shows red like charging but them just shuts off . If I take battery out, no power at all.

This sounds like a problem with the AC charger not providing enough power. The battery never charges enough to maintain power during boot. See if you can borrow a charger to check (maybe from a local shop), or buy one (since you'll probably need one anyway). Don't over pay. I see them on eBay for $12 or so. I bought one recently from a local shop for $25. That should give you a ballpark price. Post your zip code, maybe someone here can help you.

Hi our laptop battery is saying plugged in not charging. it's a new battery

In this case take the adapter to a shop and have it checked. If bad replace it. If it checks good the the problem is most likely the connector where it plugs into the laptop. This is difficult to replace and will need a trip to the shop.

DELL INSPIRON 6400 BATTERY CHARGE PROBLEM

The battery has 5 small dots in it. Those are there for no reason. Those are actually LED lights. There's a button you can press. If we number the lights 1-2-3-4-5 with 1 being closest to the button, check the lights when you press the button. If 1-3-5 are lit, that means that you have a dead battery and needs to be replaced. Other than that, you're battery might still be working but nearing the end of its life. Goto support.dell.com -> drivers and downloads -> enter your service tag or system type -> download Dell Quickset. Once Quickset is installed, it will diagnose your battery automatically and let you know if your battery already needs a replacement. It is just sad that batteries are covered with a separate 1-year warranty only. You can also go to www.dellbatteryprogram.com and check if your battery was part of the Dell Battery Recall Program.
