Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Wireless HP 6180 PhotoSmart All in ONe will not scan document to my computer

When I attempt to scan a document from my C6180 All in One to the computer...it will not scan...gives me an error message...refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. It has allowed me to scan before without a problem....but in the past couple times I have tried it gives me that message. I have gone through the manual, even reinstalled the printer....nothing seems to work. Please advise

the hp scanner software (hp device manager) says the scanner could not be initialized - error communicating with the scanner

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2009

I have a HP 6180C wireless and when I run ScanPro on occasion I get "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized." I think I have tracked this down that when the scanner/printer is "asleep" and you run ScanPro, it doesn't wake up correctly. Then, something in ScanPro gets broken and it won't work from there on. The only fix I know of, and have done successfully, is to reset the printing system (see Mac OS X Help if you need to) and then reinstall the printer driver (download the latest from HP). That seems to fix it. Dunno if this is an Apple or HP thing but it sure is annoying. Hope this helps!

I too cannot scan a document to my computer. When using the scan menu, "no scan options. Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". Everything else works great, ie; copy, send fax etc.

oh This is a simple solution open up the hp solution centre icon or the hp director icon whichever your printer software has on the computer.
Then click on settings.
point to scan settings and click on scan to setup and on all the items on the left hand side select them and move them to the right hand side and click on the ok button or the update the device button and you will not face this issue anymore.
your printer software should be installed so that you dont get this error message anymore

Well its the issue with the printer drivers taking a dynamic ip address.all you need to do is uninstall the printer network drivers, insert the s/w cd that came with the printer and then click on add a device ,it would install the printer drivers all over again.

In case it doesnt you can always contact a free online technical

Epson V100 Document Mat error

Please check if the option cable connected on the back of the scanner is seated properly.
If you are using epson scan to scan from your computer, try to scan using either professional or home mode and choose the correct settings.

Connection issue between XP Pro and HP C6180 all-in-one

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

An error occurred while communicating with scanning device

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

An error occurred while trying to scan to a PDF

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:

Settting "Scan To" Destination using HP Director

Those were the most relevant solutions I could find for you. I hope some of this information is helpful. Good luck.

the save as function is in the print/scan manager, not the software..you'll need to point it to where you want it to save, and also what format
