The unit turns on (power) and light stays green. Ethernet light does the same. However, the DSL light will flash green and then turn red and the unit appears to have suffered a power spike resultant in this behavior. The unit turns on (power) and light stays green. If this happened after a power spike and are using an ISP that is PPPoE (you have a user name and password),the settings in the unit might have been wiped out, try logging on to the web interface of the unit http://homeportal/setup and run the system setup wizard, let me know if this helps

This is a known issue with this model.. The power supply is not large enough to handle the extra current that is needed when the unit broadcasts on wifi.

that 2wire only works with DSL services, if you are using cable internet then no it wont work. If the surfboard digital voice is just a VOIP router then yes, plug the surfboard into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the 2wire.
The 2Wire 2700 is a residential gateway, a modem and router in-one. There is an RJ-11 jack in the back of the gateway and this is where your dsl phone cord plugs in. There are four RJ-45 jacks in the back for connecting devices using ethernet cable. As a router is can operate both wirelessly and wired. For wireless operation you'll need the WEP key which is located on the tag on the bottom of the gateway. It's the number enclosed in brackets, between the two bar codes.
Hi. I will not repeat the check the phone line and resetting comments as it's now redundant.
I always have a spare modem as a line tester.
I've seen several 2700HG-B 2wire modem/routers burn out and every single time it's the DSL signal or modem portion that is burnt out. Even if you have two or three phone line surge protectors these 2700s are prone to shorting out unless you have a direct signal splitter DSL setup.
Here are a few things you can try to confirm if the 2700 is no longer functional on the DSL signal light problem.
#1: Turn on (plug in) your 2700 without the phone line plugged in and wait. If the DSL starts flashing red then there is a hardware problem in the modem/router.
#2: Plug the phone line into the 2700 while the dsl light is flashing red. It might take about 3 seconds however it should start to flash green and let it flash for about (usually) three minutes. If it turns red then the 2700 is indeed damaged.
#3: If you can enter into your modem using the http://2wire... and check the connection status. The first two status lines should read attempting to connect and no connection.
The unit turns on (power) and light stays green. Ethernet light does the same. However, the DSL light will flash green and then turn red and the unit appears to have suffered a power spike resultant in this behavior.
thanks, javi but the problem still persists
