Question about Brother XL-3500

Sewing Machine (brother XL 3200) When I attempt to thread the machine I get to the part that I want to catch the top thread that goes through the needle with the thread that is in the bobbin and usually the top thread will catch the bottom thread and then you put the bottom thread up and then you are ready to sew. My top thread will not go around to catch the bottom thread. It goes throught the motions but nothing happens.

You may have the bobbin case in wrong.  I have this machine, and I know that it is really easy to put the bobbin case in wrong.  Try taking it out and making sure that the little stop is in the front and it is seated down in there and able to wiggle back and forth.  My experience with this machine, until the other day when my cat knocked mine off the table and knocked something out of alignment, is that it just works.  Any time mine hasn't worked, it has either been dirty, needing oil, threaded wrong or the bobbin case wasn't seated right.  In other words, it has always been my fault.

When the needle goes down it doesn't catch the bobbin thread till it is half way back up which pulls the thread and fabric down and jams everything up.

This happens sometimes when you have put thread on the bobbin and it wasn't tight enough. Be consistent when put thread on the bobbin. At least this has been my experience.

Brother xl-2600 As I am sewing ( not thick material) the thread keeps breaking, also over seams it is not sewing through. Then, when my bobbin ran out, went to change it and when pulling the needle down...

try changing the top thread tension to 3 or 4

also rethread the machine just in case the thread is hung up somewhere

take the bobbin out & put the bobbin in reverse of what you did before

you said you changed the needle, check to make sure it in correctly,, the flat side goes to the back of the machine, push it all the way up before tightening the screw

HAVE A BROTHER XL5340 SEWING MACHINE WHEN THE TOP NEEDLE AND THREAD GOES IN TO LOWER BOBING IT WONT CATCH THE BOBING THREAD AND LOOP CORRECTLY ITS NOT CATCHING AND LOOPING AROUND THE BOBING

firstly check that the needle is in the right way, flat shank to the back. This is easy to get wrong and will prevent the rotary hook from catching the upper thread when the needle is at the lowest point in the stitch sequence.

Also check threading up of the top thread, particularly that the thread is through the take up lever.

There is good trouble shooting tips at http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Sewing%20Machine%20Troubleshooting.htm too.

However, if you are certain threading up is correct, and needle is correct then the timing between needle and rotary hook may be out. There is diagrams at this website too for this problem
http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Repair/Sewing%20Machine%20Hook%20Timing.htm however, I've always left timing repair to my sewing machine technician to deal with.

The needle on my brother XL 5340 sewing machine does not appear to go down far enough to catch the lower thread.

Hi. Check to make sure that the flat side of the needle shank is facing to the rear (away from you), that the needle isn't bent, and that it is inserted as far up as it will go.

Hope this helps,

Robbie

Thread is catching & breaking somewhere inside the machine before it gets to the needle. brother XL-5600 machine

According to page 18 of the manual, the only place the thread could be catching would be the tension discs or the uptake lever.

Lift the presser foot and run a heavier thread or flat, unwaxed dental floss through the threading procedure to see if this will clean out a thread that may have jammed into the discs.

Always thread with the presser foot up and make sure the uptake lever catches the thread.

If this continues, take the machine to an authorized Brother dealer for service.

Can not get the brother XL2600i to stitch the top thread does not catch the thread coming out of the bobbin. so it does not stitch

Make sure the needle has been properly installed - flat side to the back of the machine.

Thread the top thread with the presser foot up - always.

Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the correct direction and through the correct guides.

Hold onto the thread tail at the needle and lower (by hand and not the power pedal) and raise the needle to pull the bobbin thread to the top of the machine.

Take both thread tails under the presser foot and to the back of the machine before you begin to sew.
