Question about Hoover F7425-900 SteamVac V2 Widepath Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Hi mine is a f7421-900

How do you get to the turbine to check it?

There are only two screws and then some black plastic things that look like the could be part of getting the cover off.

I actually think my problem is in the switch. I turned the brushes off to do a chair and now when I switch it on they don't work.

Any advice is helpful thanks Cindi

Unless something came apart, there is no switch, when you push that knob to turn off the brushes, you are actually moving an actuator arm on the top of turbine. Take the brush block out and there should be a shaft sticking up, if broken off, then replace the brush block. Then look up where the brush block was, tur the unit on, if the square hole is turning then the turbine is ok, if not then there is a problem with it. Take out the screws from the bottom, I believe there is 4 or 6 for the top housing, there are 2 longer screws, they hold down the turbine, take those out also. Turn the unit over, and remove the top cover, near the back of it, on each side, there is a post that the cover goes into, should just pull out. Then ther are 2 more screws on the front of the turbine, unhook the hoses and it will come out. #23 is the turbine.

Brushes wont spin on the vax duel v 124 model and i dont know how to get to the belt to see if it has broken. There is no reset button on here that I can find !!

V124 /124a. Brushes not spinning. A clicking noise can sometimes be heard with this fault. It is likely that the brush drive unit has developed a fault. For the adventurous it is quite straightforward to repair. Ensure the machine is unplugged from the power supply and remove the tanks. Place the machine down on the floor and remove the brush bar. This clicks into place and is easy to lift out. Remove the screws on the base of the machine that hold the red cover in place. These are posidriv self tappers. Remove the clear plastic V assembly from the machine. This is clicked into place to make removal and replacement easy. Locate the turbine assembly and underneath the machine remove the screws that hold this in place. Disconnect the two small rubber hoses on the turbine assembly and gently pry out the turbine. The turbine can be opened up by removing the self tapping screws holding it together. Do this on a well lit bench or tabletop
Gently open up the turbine housing by lifting the black clips slightly. Keep the turbine level while you are doing this. Inside is the black plastic turbine blade. Remove the two gears and the small bearing and place to one side. Inspect the turbine blade for cracks or damage. If cracked the turbine blade can be repaired using a hot soldering iron to 'weld' the plastic. Ensure the repair is smoothed off by using a flat file. A tiny amount of light oil can be applied inside the turbine casing. Then reassemble the turbine blade, gears and bearing and clip the housing together. Replace screws in turbine housing. Refit turbine into the machine Replace machine screws, red cover. clear V assembly clicks back on. Test the machine to make sure that the brushes rotate. If the turbine is beyond repair a new one can be obtained as a spare part

The brushes on my Hoover steam spin carpet cleaner will not spin.

Hello, their is two reason why the brushes don't spin, one would be the brush brock is broken, take out the brush, and mnake sure their is a plastic two inch shaft sticking out, if not, then the brush block needs to be replaced, if fine, the the turbine is frozen and will need to be replaced, take the lid off and replace the black turbine, I can send you anything you need, or if you have any questions feel free to call 1561-848-3387 Thank you, Teresa.

Turbine head of my Dyson DC08 does not spin

This response is likely too late coming, however for others the problen appears to be the same as the fault with my turbine head which was that the turbine fan had become loose on its spindle. With no pressure on the brushes, friction would allow the fan to turn and drive the brushes via the belt. The faulty part is not available separately however I have repaired mine using araldite glue. Other things to check is for a worn belt. Cheers.

How to clean turbo brush of harmony electrolux and put it back together properly

Wait, there are two more screws that must be removed before the top shell will come off. They are located under the wheels. Pop the wheels out by simply inserting yoru finger or a small tool into the wheel and pulling straight up. Remove those two screws and then you can proceed as mentioned above.
When reassembling the head, if the shell does not snap back onto the base, check for plastic chips or other debris in the narrow slots on the underside of the shell. Clear these slots out and the head should easily snap back together.

The brushes stopped turning

just repaired mine today same problem.
Turbine drive shaft which drives two sets of plastic gears and which in turn make the scrub brushes rotate has sealed ball bearings and I guess from an evidently poor design moisture some how entered plastic gear casing and the sealed bearings froze up which evidently aren't sealed all that well. Anyway (turbine drive after easy removal from unit 8 screws on bottom one on top can be disassembled by removing 4 screws around gear casing allowing access to the plastic drive gears and the bearings) You can make a decision from there of whether or not a new replacement turbine is a better way to go.
The entire turbine unit can be purchased online for a very reasonable price if you look around the Web.

Hoover SteamVac F7222-900 steamvac Brushes do not spin. Looked at filter as per manual instructions but it was free of lint. Need to fix it, help please? Vacuum was used less than 10/12 times

Solution for Hoover SteamVac (F7452-900) brushes not spinning
Uses the turbine model and same solution would be similar. Root cause is simply the main gear attached to turbine becomes stuck. This problem should not happen as often as I see other people also having this problem. Must be a poor design on Hoover’s part. It takes about 30 minutes and a Phillips screw driver and wrench. Pretty easy, just have to remember what screws went where.
Remove brushes, and front suction cover
On the bottom of the machine:
Remove the 4 screws behind brushes which attach the top faceplate
Remove the 2 screws from base in the sunken holes
Remove the two long silver screws from base which connect all the way to turbine assembly
Stand machine upright
Remove the floor select switch handle
Remove 1 screw near the center beside the intake hole
Remove the 2 screws over the rear wheels
Remove faceplate cover, the front will need to be gently pried over the clear plastic part, be careful about the upright disengaging lever under faceplate, move it under the metal wire
Remove the 2 screws in the front of the turbine assembly
Remove the 2 hoses on either side
Disengage the bar on the floor selector switch
Pull out the turbine assembly
Remove the 4 screws and 3 clips to separate the assembly
Remove the filter (which is most likely clean since, cleaning this is the manufactures only solution)
Remove the large white gear and with a wrench remove ball bearing
Remove other large white gear
Note that the metal gear attached to turbine will not move (this was my problem), with a wrench gently grab metal gear and twist free. Spin turbine to make sure it moves freely.
Put everything back together again and you should be good to go.

Brushes will not spin -- broken part

Did deeper, I finally just fixed mine today, I thought the same thing about it not wanting to come apart, but try one more time, and when your almost done, look underneath there is a long plastic piece with two screws almost side by side towards the front, take them out, remove the two rubber hoses on the top side and remove the turbine, opens real easy and clean it out, then wala it' work again...

Brushes not turning, but suction okay?

My problem was that the metal "transmission" had it's upper and lower bearings frozen. I sprayed WD-40 and let it sit for awhile. I then proceeded to work it free. It was quite rusty inside the cover plate, leading me to believe that water somehow entered the housing or they used a water based lubricant from the factory. Water based lubricants are generally cheaper than oil based so I'm tending to lead that way. The "transmission" is the metal rod with hypoid type gear in it that turns the 2 plastic gears. It is a press fit to the turbine wheel, so twisting a flat blade screwdriver under the turbine wheel will remove it. Make sure the lower bearing is free to turn easily. I also used some anti-sieze compound on the gears.

Hoover F7431-900

If the screen is not dirty, and the flapper valve to the turbine inlet is open, then the problem is mostly a stuck turbine impeller. The turbine impeller on my F7431-900 has seized TWICE!! The shaft for the turbine is not made of stainless steel, therefore is subject to corrosion. If you have a handy husband or boyfriend, give it to them, because some disassembly is required to access the turbine unit. After the turbine is removed and opened up, get some P'Blaster and squirt is on the shaft. P'Blaster is a rust removing solvent and is great for freeing up rusty nuts and bolts. Allow the P'Blaster 20-30 minutes to penetrate the corroded shaft. Then, grab the impeller and wiggle it back and forth, until free rotation is achieve. The last time my brushes stopped rotating, and I disassembled the turbine, it was really siezed up. I thought I was going to need to buy a new impeller assembly. But, that P'Blaster is really great stuff for breaking up corroded parts (it's like WD-40 on steroids!). I did need to give the turbine's impeller a good twist to free it up. If you can't get the turbine impeller to rotate, then buy a new one (about $27.00). Then, you can just install it and save a bundle on labor. I think I want to become a Hoover vacuum repairman. Their business must be booming because Hoover is putting out a poorly designed turbine unit. Boo, Hiss...... shame on Hoover for selling us **** like this.

PS You can get P'Blaster at any auto store, like Pep Boys, Autozone, etc.
