Question about Maytag Atlantis MAV6000 Top Load Washer
My washing machine starts to wobble excessively during the spin cycle. Almost like if you had a very heavy unbalanced load. However, even with small loads it still gets out of control. It just started doing this. At first I thought the springs at the bottom of the tub must have broken free but I see nothing obviously wrong. I read that this symptom is often associated with the pump but really have no way to confirm since it seems to be pumping water out...maybe just not pumping fast enough?
My Maytag top loader would wobble very bad even when clothes were balanced. It turned out to be a spring for the tub had broken.

The base of the tub assembly rests on a white plastic ring called a 'snubber'. If any type of lubricant gets in this area, the tub will wobble excessively. The major cause for this issue is a failed transmission where oil has leaked out and into the snubber. The transmission may be warranted for 10 years. Check your owners manual. A good method to check for oil is to tilt the machine back and remove the plastic cover in the center of the pulley, if it contains oil, the transmission is leaking also look at the inside cabinet wall for signs of oil splatter.
