I have a PIXMA mx300 printer and am unable to install a new black cartridge. It looks as though it should just slide right in but it will not do so.

SOURCE: canon mx300 states error 5100 check printer. when

I had the same code, and my cartridge would not move. My dad, who works on printers, told me to turn it off, and slowly pull the white band (to pull the cartridges) back to its place. I did this, and my printer now works perfectly. Try this first.

U051 error can i disable printer and use only scanner and fax canon mx300

Sadly not. The cartridge error will have to be resolved before you can use the scanner/fax. You do not however have to have a full cartridge installed, the printer just needs to be able to recognise the cartridge.

I have a canon pixma mx300 printer that has a message check printer 5800 the troubleshooting says to unplug and plug back in that does not work

When you refill your cartridge or do something to your cartridge,
the printer does not recognize the cartridge.. This is what it happened here.

Any solution?? Unfortunately, there isn't any.
Once your cartridge is shorted... that particular cartridge is useless.
You have to replace with new one.
However, you can always prevent what this happens.
1. Always unplug the power cords before take out your cartridge.
2. Same thing applies when you insert the cartridge.
In this way, you can avoid the cartridge shorts with refilling your cartridge. thanks

Canon mx300 not recognize reffil cartridge color 51,

This cartridges has a memory chip and printer will recognized refill cartridges like empty. You can't reset the ink level on all Canon Pixma printers.Push resume button and hold it for 5 seconds. This operation releases the function for detecting the remaining ink level of the above ink.The printer shows empty cartridges but it will printing.
If this not help there is a minimum chance your cartridge is failed electrically and printer not recognized. In this case replace the cartridge.

I just refilled my black ink cartridge in my mx300 canon printer, but it still says out of black ink, I think because the cartridge has been a little overfilled. when I click on supply levels it says...

You will have to purchase a new cartridge as your printer has a mechanism built-in which detects the date of the cartridge and locks it if it was once empty and then re-filled.
You can try and ask the re-fill vendor to reset the cartridge time but not every cartridge can be initialized.
