Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

We have a Maytag MD-24 Front Load Washing Machine. The Pump gets plugged. It is usually a quarter or something of that size that plugs the pump. Right now the machine has water in it. How do I drain the water, so I can disconnect the pump line(s). This machine has been the worst one we have ever purchased from Maytag. We have paid for so many service calls, and I don't want to spend another dime on this thing. Appreciate any help with on getting the water to siphon out of the machine.

HI,

If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Remove the front panel, take the suction hose off the pump and remove the coins and bobby pins from the pump impeller.

Maytag washer starts drain pump and nothing else works

best guess timer issue
timer runs all the water ins and outs and wash cycles
or depending on model electronic controller board

not sure why the machine is unplugged often
it is worth buying a one plug surge protector

hint
unplugging to fix any washing machine during a set wash cycle only interrupts the timer
spinning the timer around fast to restart an unfinishied cycle .damages the timer

Washer will not spin or pump

Have you tried to drain the drum manualy by opening the drain plug, normaly located on botom either in the front or the back.

when drained unplug the machine from the wall socket. then open the backcover, the drainpump are usually located next to drainplug. if not follow the hose connected to drain plug to get to the pump.when you found the pump remove it from the washing machine and strip it to clean the inside of the pump ,the impellor and so on. their you will find some black stuff that will stink a lot ,thats all old soap water.after cleaning put it back together and reinstall it. it should solve the problem, if not check for propper supply voltage to pump and spin motor.

Front Loader will not drain or start...

HI, check the following to address this issue.(nd=no drain)

1. Clogged drain line or water pump
Check to see if there's something stuck inside the pump or the drain hose connected to the pump (pump is usually located at the bottom and towards the back of the washing machine).

2. Water Pump
If the drain line isn't clogged, you may have a problem with the water pump such as a frozen pulley or a broken impeller. If that's the case replace the water pump. Note: if you have a belt driven washer, check the belt(s) for cracks, as this would be a perfect time to replace the belt(s) if needed.

**The most common issue will be an obstructed hose or, line

"nd" refers to a No Drain issue .check for restriction in pump, restricted drain hose loose wire at pump, bad pump.
The pump had a suds lock. Unplug the machine for a minute. Plug it back in and run a cycle on hot to get rid of the excess soap.

Washer not spinning or draining

Same problem.  Water wouldn't drain, no trouble codes, door wouldn't unlock.  When the Rinse and Spin cycle or Drain cycle was selected all I got was a growling humm from the pump.  Clued in by the above postings I pulled the washer away from the wall, tipped it back so it leaned against the wall with the bottom fully exposed and removed the plastic panel covering the bottom (underneath - 4 screws) of the machine.  The small pump was just where these postings said it would be, top right of the bottom opening. Disconnect the two drain hoses from the pump. Mine were connected with hose clamps that I removed with just my thumb and fore-finger.  I had two quarters AND a nickel lodged inside the pump and was able to coax them out without removing the pump. Replaced the hoses and bottom panel, tipped upright and I was back in business - didn't even have to unplug (Its never a bad idea to do so) or disconnect the water hoses.
  • Total time spent: including searching for these posts and random dead-end trouble shooting - 1.5 hours.
  • Tools: 1 Phillips screwdriver.

Unlisted error code on MAH-24 Maytag front-loading washer

Did you connect the wires back to the pump. The neutral runs through the pump winding and to the door interlock. Check the connections on the drain pump and the harness in general. Sounds like a broken connection somewhere.
