hi I would like to purchase an external CD writer which i will connect on the USB bus of a Toshiba Laptop 4030CDS. What problems can I expect? What will be the fastest read and write speed? I suppose, if USB is limited to 12MBit/sec, a write speed of 4 will be the limit. Can anyone who has experience with USB cd-writers on laptops give me the assurance that this setup will work faultless? Thx Johan
I have the sony spressa USB CDRW on a satellite 2595CDT (celeron 400, 64Mo) since one year now so far no problem, burned around 100 CD (just remember to turn auto insert notification off on all drive otherwise it crash in the middle of the burning process). It's not really fast, manual says 4X in write, 4X in rewrite... I can do 4X in write but have to go done to 2X in rewrite but it do the job.
