Question about Antec SP450 450W SmartPower ATX 2.0 20/24 Pin ATX Connector Power Supply (SP450) (PS450ANSP450) Power Supply

2 Answers

DOA After 2 years of good service, the Sonata PS (450W SmartPower) has apparently died. Either that, or the MB died. At any rate, unplugging each item (drives, cards, memory) in a systematic way does not restore power. Swapping cords, and using a different power out does not solve the problem. The machine behave as if it is not plugged in (no fans, beeps or anything else).

    Similar problem! after 2.5 years:
I have the same case & sp 450 with an abit AW8 motherboard---
    - computer does not shutdown properly - the power simply turns off mid way through the shutdown process -

    - Sometimes the computer tries turn back on by it self - to stop this I turned off the power switch on the power supply -

    - after this the computer does not want to restart -

    - Code progression display when trying to restart : 0.0. , 8.3. (quik flash), F._ , _1. then back to 0.0.

    - computer does start about 5% of the tries --- When it starts, everything runs fine

    - when started it will restart with no problems

    - if standby is selected, it turns off same as if shutdown is selected

    - tried resetting the CMOS - does not seem to have any effect on the start up process

Please tell me if this is a MB problem & or provide suggestions.

MB was purchased from Newegg on 4-15-06 : AW8 socket T (LGA 775) Intel 955X ATX Intel Motherboard

You can try a different power supply and see if that works. If it still doesnt work, it's the motherboard.

Hi...ihave antec sp-450 smart power and it have 2 fans.only one is working when i pluged it ...is it a problam or the ather fan starts to work later????

If the fan that is working is the outside fan on the power supply and if your case is well ventillated there wont be a problem. If not then buy a new power supply.

5 yr old Asus with antec 450 power supply has had NO issues ever. Now I need to turn the ps off and on 2 or 3 times before the start switch at the front of the comp will work.... once it boots up...

there are several filter capacitors inside the power supply that are defective and /or are changing value. this accounts for the high pitch squeel you are hearing...the only REAL way to test for these problems are with an esr meter or lcr bridge, but you can physically look at the capacitors and see if any of them are bulged up or leaking., my suggestion is to go to tigerdirect.com and get another 450W or better PS...they are pretty cheap there

yes it sounds like the power supply is shot, you can get a replacement at any computer shop for around $40. i would put in a 400w or 450w that way if you add another hard drive or opitcal drive it wont be a strain on the new power supply
