Due to an electrical outage, desktop computer (Sony Vaio VGC-RB30), lost power and would not reboot. A small blinking green light on the back panel was the only thing happening. Is this a hard disc problem...

this usually mean the power supply went bad and is in safe mode.(so other component in the computer won't get damaged) try unplugging the computer from the wall and wait 10 minutes. If you plug it in and the green light is still flashing the power supply is the most likely thing that is wrong. you can take the power supply to a local repair shop and they can test it in a few seconds. my guess is that it is bad. Computer will not run in safe mode (not in any mode). We had a power outage last week and ever since then the computer will not reboot or run. I get it cut on and a black screen appears saying that windows...

The power failure has made the operating system (windows)to crash . if you can do some installation on your pc yourself, you can repair the operating system or better still reinstall a new operating system.

Pointer locks up on the desk top after a power outage

Tried a different mouse? Maybe the power outage fried it. pc2 mouse? If it the wirring is fried or the mother board for the mouse is fried then you could purchase a USB mouse if you have an available port.  Finally download the mouse driver and reload it first.   Any more questions please ask. Thanks

Automatically rebooting computer after power failure

The bios settings turn the computer on automatically. I actually have mine set to turn on automatically in the morning before I get out of bed so it's already on when I get up. Watch what you see on your screen as you boot up the computer and do whatever it tells you to do to boot up in bios (typically by hitting the F2 or Del key). Once in bios, go to the power section. In the power setting you should see something pertaining to the modem. If you do NOT want it to power up automatically, choose the Disable option. If you DO want to power it up automatically, it will also ask for a time (day of month, hour, minute). If you set the day as 1, for example, it will power up on the 1st of the month at the time that is set. If you set the day of the month to zero (0), it will power up every day at that time.
