Question about ASUS Intel 810 Chipset MEW-AM Motherboard

Question from docustor re:ASUS Intel 810 Chipset MEW-AM

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to install 2 RAM cards, each with 256MB PC-100 DIMM, to total 512. I tried installing just one of them, but machine wouldn't boot. I also did go to ASUS website before I posted to FixYa, but could not definitely determine which BIOS update should be used, and I am afraid I'll disable my whole computer if I download the wrong BIOS since I am not very tech-savvy. When I was reviewing your answer at FixYa, there was a link that somehow got me to a phone number at ASUS tech support, so i can try to speak directly with someone there on Monday. Any other suggestions you have would be most appreciated. Direct email to me is docustor@yahoo.com.
Thanks--Steve

The intel 810 chipset requires very specifically made 256meg sticks to support that much memory. the 256 meg standard has changed, and the 810 wont support the ram unless it is made by the old specs. smaller ram sticks such as 64 and 128 will not have this problem.

It shouldn't matter what order you remove and replace the RAM cards in. The instructions are saying to populate Slot 1, Slot 2, and then other slots in order; don't skip any slots, in other words.

PC Motherboard Memory upgrade

From Asus tech: Memory 3 184-pin DIMM slots for PC1600/PC2100 DDR SDRAM
Supports up to 2GB memory
No ECC supportThis is only compatible RAM so make sure your new chip is PC1600 or PC2100. If you mis the 2 it the faster RAM will run at the slower chip speed. Hope this helps.

Updating BIOS for ASUS CUW-AM/MEW-AM Motherboard

Try locating your bios etc. on asus's website:

128 to 256 seems like you should not need an update. Are you putting in a second 128 stick, or replacing a 128 with a 256?

Cant insall new graphics card

the graphic card is a plug and play device meaning as you install it, it is giving its resource and it starts working but you install yours and the motherboard beeps means
1. there was a change in the CMOS configuration which should not occur
2. the CMOS utility did not identify any graphic device
i think your graphic device is questionable it could not be good is the word.

Intel ASUS P4 845 GL Motherboard

Hi, For an ASUS P4BGL-VM Intel 845GL Chipset Ultra ATA100 MATX CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4 478-Pin (OEM), the Asus site specifies max of 2 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 2GB PC2100 / PC1600 non-ECC DDR or SDRAM memory but not "and". Personally, I find it more practical to install 2 X 1Gb rather than a single 2Gb. Hope this gives you some idea. Kind regards.
