I need to load a poi to my NUVI 250W having obtained the data from Google maps. Exaple I have 46.185032, 7.291311. This happens to be a location I woud like to put into my Satnav but have not a clue how to do it

That is very simplistic! I am a novice and sitting here with the thing connected, having loaded to my PC the POI file but there is no info on how to access this to put the data into the satnav...I have spent hours trying to work it out and whilst I can see the files on the satnav they are not accepsable or I am warned about trying to access them and as I have not been able to see any sort of "access" screen to the satnav, so how the hell is one supsoed to "down load" the data, or imput it manually into the Satnav give the data a name and then save it for the map points I have?

I drive to many countries in Europe and often get the data for a location as stated before Often the satnav does not have the ROAD, STREET name, so it far more accurate to go to google maps find the location (often given by the customer I am delivering the goods to) move the bubble to the location the customer knows where it is this offers a numerical code (didgits) All I need to do is put these digits into the satnav call it a name and presto, I get taken directly to this location without needing the road name to find it.

I have also an ICN650 Navman which is not longer able to be updated with maps (very annoyed about this cos in the UK it was £1000.00 and that was less than three years go!!). However, like Garmin it would seem I am able to use POI to imput the data from google but being so bl***dy thick technically, its not easy for me to do it, well I have yet to do it. So, I thought I would try and do it with this less expensive Satnav first before I wipe all the data of mine tying. Do ya understand now why its important for me to use the POI thing as it makes my OLD SATNAV updatable for destinations not on its data base.

    Generally: "
    1) Load the POI with Garmin POI Loader

    2) Go to POI

    3) Search near a city: i put the city that's in the csv file

    4) Spell name: Tim Hortons (for example)

    " (from Garmin forum)

Well, I cannot undestand what specific information on POI may be of interest for you. Here is a general tutorial with everything about POI.

To download the POI you need a POI loader , like the one here: here.

Yeah POI are useful when you travel. You want to use POI on the Satnav, is this the problem. I have a Garmin, in any case on Satnav you can download POI from here I think.

How to download a map update for some malls and places

Malls and places are not available on map updates. They are considered Points of Interest (POIs). There are many sites on the web that offer POIs for you to download to your GPS. You just have to find one that offers what you are looking for.

I can't get the location of a store that I know exists. I have a garmin nuvi 200w thanks

Commercial locations are gleened from advertising medium, such as Yellow Pages, etc. If the store is very small, there's a chance they won't be listed as a Garmin point of interest. You might have to search via address.

Stuck

You can reset by pushing on the lower right hand corner while powering it on, it will ask if you would like to clear all user data. select Yes,

If after that the problem still exists update the firmware on your unit. Go to the link and click on unit update

Won't stay on

Have you installed anything lately? Do you have any sd card installed? Usually this is the cause for it to crash. There is a reset on the bottom of the nuvi, when it locks up blank, press the reset button and see what happens...

Map fro Garmin

As far as I know you can only buy maps from Garmin, or a Garmin retailer.  The 660 should have all the maps for North America already loaded in it.

You can purchase Points of Interest (POI) databases from a variety of sources.  Just google POI.  These are not maps but they are adresses for points of interest such as restaurants, special services, and even speed trap cameras.
