Question about Nova Development Photo Explosion Deluxe Version 3

Photo Explosion 3 won't save images on Vista equipped computer

I have used PE3 for quite some time on my comp with Windows XP. Am helping my Mom learn the digital cam and her computer, photo editing, etc. She has a comp with Vista. It is different to say the least. We thought we successfully installed PE3 in her comp - I made sure that the box said it was compatible with Vista when I purchased it for her from Staples. The problem we're dealing with is that we go to 'Browse' pick a picture from a folder and make changes to it - and all the features work making the changes in the picture, just as I am accustomed to with my PE3 on XP, however when we try to 'save as' nothing happens. When we want to close the project, it asks if we 'want to save changes to .......'. If we say 'NO' the project remains open, if we say 'YES' it closes the project 'saving' the changed picture right back where we got it from, losing the original picture in the process. This is very frustrating for me, and I'm assuming it has something to do with the Vista system, but I just can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you. JF

Thanks for trying, Airoff. What's so frustrating is not being able to "Just for chucks" or "Doublecheck" to see where the PE3 is saving the edited photo to -- if in fact it even is saving it---to anywhere!

I tried opening a new document, same size or bigger than a photo we wanted to edit, copied and pasted the photo to the new document, edited it as much as we wanted to with no problems, only when we try to save it by clicking on "Save as under a different name"--absolutely nothing happens. When we want to close the edited photo, if we answer "NO" to "do you want to save changes to untitled document 1?" it does not close--if we answer "YES" to "do you want.....?" then it simply dissapears. Seems that it will only 'save' back to the folder that is being browsed, but not new documents. I did have the thought of checking in "Documents" or "Pictures" for it, but didn't at the time. I did not think of checking "Desktop" (does Vista even have a Desktop?--LOL) I will have to try that next time I'm at Mom's comp.

I also checked on the Nova Development troubleshooting site and mayhaps there is an update or upgrade needed to be downloaded. I will have to check on that when Mom gets hooked up with a server and the 'Net, as apparently there are other documented problems with PE3 and Vista.

    Thanks fer the help. Which one of "my" pipe tobaccos do you prefer? I always smoked the 'gold' ;}

Doublecheck where it's trying to save the photo to. Vista gets a little weird about rights and folders, especially if UAC (user account control - Vista's idea of the "ultimate" security system)

Just for chucks, try and save the edited photo to someplace like the Users "My Documents" or desktop, where you should have full rights. If it saves there, see if you can change options to always store there.

And, I love your pipe tobacco :)....

    Hey Cap'n,

Assuming you've updated everything from this page:
    http://www.novadevelopment.com/Support/U...

I'll bet your problem is coming from Vista security. Can you try to run the program as "administrator". Right click the icon, and select "Run as ..." to try this.

Personally, I disable the User Account Control system - it's more trouble than it's worth, especially on a single user computer.

BTW, Vista stores the desktop etc. under Users, vs Documents and Settings in XP.

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. Have you tried running the software in Compatibility Mode? Depending on your version of Windows 7, you may have the ability to run it in Compatibility Mode. Try right-clicking on the Photo Explosion shortcut that is on your Desktop. Then, go to Properties from the pop-up menu. Then, select the Compatibility tab. On that tab, put a check next to "Run the program in compatibility mode for:". Then, select Windows XP SP2. Click on the OK button to save this setting. Finally, try launching the program again.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi!
What I understand is that your photo explosion deluxe is a windows xp software. Since it is not working readily out of the box in windows 7 then what you could do is install windows xp mode for windows 7. Windows xp mode allows xp software to be installed and windows 7. What you need to do is just download windows xp mode and install it. After which you could then install that software on there. Just make sure to uninstall your current installation of photo explosion deluxe before you do this.
Here is the link to the download for windows xp mode: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
And Here is the link to some of their videos on how to use xp mode so that you could understand further how to set it up: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/default.aspx
If you have any more questions or concerns please feel free to come by again here at fixya.com
You have a great day.

My wife bought me photo explosion several years ago and I used it on my Windows XP. I recently found it again and installed in on my Windows Vista. I can't get it to open up. Thanks , Joe H.

This is because your software version is not compatible with Vista.

Reinstall,
Try using "Windows Vista Compatibility Mode" for the older software, Link . No assurance it will work!

Hope it helps.
