try starting in safe mode. hold down f8 when you turn on your computer until you get a menu with the option to boot in safe mode. once you successfully log on in safe mode, restart your computer and the problem should be cleared. if not, we can explore further options.
The problem lies in the Temporary Internet Files folder. Sometimes the index.dat file can become damaged. If this occurs, you'll have to delete the index.dat file and restart your computer. Then you'll be able to download files correctly again. Follow the steps below to delete this file. 1) Open Internet Explorer. 2) Click on Tools, Click on Internet Options 3) On the General tab under Temporary Internet Files, click on Delete Files 4) Click Ok when it asks if you want to delete the files 5) Under the History section on the General tab, click Clear History, then click Ok 6) Close Internet Explorer 7) Log off the current user and Log onto another user account such as Administrator 8) Click on Start, Run 9) Type CMD and Press Enter to open a command prompt 10) Change directories to the Temporary Internet Files directory by typing the following command, (substituting the correct drive letter and the word username with the correct userName).
cd drive:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
Example: cd c:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
11) type del index.dat and press Enter 12) Type Exit and press Enter to close the command prompt 13) Restart your computer Once the computer has been restarted, open a web page with a link to a download. Click on the link and download the file. It should now work.
When seeing the log on screen of the user, press
CTRL, ALT and Del a couple of times untill a box appears asking for user name and password.
In user name type: Administrator and leave the password field blank, this should allow you to get on and delete that account.
Hope this helped
Have you tried to boot into safemode ( f8 on boot before windows comes up, then select safemode ) and then when you get into windows do a system restore to a point before you got hit then use adaware andspybot search and destroy and then instal AVG best AV software I have ever seen.
most likely you are logged in to another account. When an account is set up, the 'files' are specific to that account, and can only be viewed when logged into that account, or as an admin login. Try the admin approach first. I'm assuming you are on XP?
It could be Permissions problem, try assigning full admin rights to the person logging in on the local computer and then try logging into hotmail if this does not help:
You have to delete the local profile of the person who is trying to logon to hotmail. To delete the profile:
log on to the local computer as an administrator, (you might have to restart the machine before doing this to release any profiles).
-go to c drive, documents and settings, simply delete the profile of the person who is trying to log onto hotmail.
-Make another user or the same username, assign appropriate rights and log on, you will be fine.
NOTE: I FULLY RECOMMEND TO PLEASE BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA FROM C DRIVE OF THAT PERSON'S PROFILE TO ANOTHER PLACE LIKE D DRIVE OR SOMEWHERE ELSE.
