Washing does not drain, instead water comes gushing out of the detergent tray at the top.

Plug off the mains. You have something clogging your exit pump; have to dismantle it to clean out.

Solution was for Hillym. As for HOSSS he could do well to examine his filter.

Can i run my ultima wma74 off the cold feed only?

Hi Naomi from retired Englishman in SW France,

In a word- YES!
You will need to purchase, from a hardware (?) store, a 'Y' adapter. Upside down the single end (internal thread) screws into the cold water supply and the hot and cold washer pipes screw into the double end (external threads). The washer is fooled into thinking it has hot and cold! When it expects hot, it opens its hot valve but instead gets the cold water and has to heat it up. It will therefore take longer for the machine to do the washing. When it wants cold for rinses, it opens its cold valve and gets the same water! Simple ;-0)

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck,
John C

Hotpoint wma74 wont spin

It could be the motor's carbon brushes have worn out. Replace with the same type. Need to get at the motor, you simply unscrew and slide out. If they are hard to reach then you will have to take the drive belt off and remove the motor and then take them out. These brushes provided the electricity to the motor in order for it to spin.

Very little water on wash cycle

water level is determined by the pressure system, and no adjustment can be made.Ensure your programe is not selected to half load.

Hotpoint WMA74 does not pump out after programmed

No test available other than:
Remove pump - check motor will turn by rotating impellor. There is a slight resistance then moves freely, then slight resistance and freely again. This is correct for this machine. worth checking there is no hair, elastic band or other obstruction around the impellor fins and shaft whilst the pump is out.
There is no spin cycle so you have to use rinse & spin, which means if the pump is shot you need to empty the machine each time :(
Worth checking lower filter as stated and blowing down the drain hose whilst the pump is off to check for obstructions.
The resolution to my problem was a new pump - £20.
All working fine again now !

Wont drain

Remove the lower rear panel of washer.
Remove the large black hose connected to bottom of drum.
Remove and clean the filter inside the hose.
Remove the hose onto the pump, and check for obstruction here and in the pump.
Hope this helps.

It sounds like you have a partial blockage somewhere..
Remove rear panel.
Remove large black hose onto drum.
Check and clean filter inside hose.
Remove drain hose, and check for restriction here as well.
