Question about Smeg 18 in. DWI410 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

DWI410 Thanks for your help Tresilla. Unfortunately, no such capacitor evident in my machine. Do you think that a smeg technician could successfully run a diagnostic check? I'm reluctant to throw the machine away, but I also don't want to pay a lot for a visit if there's little chance of him/her finding the problem.

There will be a capacitor. usually attached to the motor but sometimes mounted at the back. it is a cylindrical object about 3-4 ins long and about 11/2 ins diameter
smeg tech should be able to find the problem but will be expensive

literally - in the front of the machine down at the bottom there is a panel about 10 cm high which can be unscrewed to give access to the base of the machine

check first that you have power to the appliance - open the cover over the connection box and check with a multimeter. also carefully check that the connection box is not burnt out. this is likely not a fault with the cooker but your power input

Burning (electrical) smell and other symptoms...

suppressor very unlikely to be the source of problems and would not explain the motor clicking
i think the main problem may be a faulty motor.remove the electrical connection and take the motor out - just held in by bolts - and examine carefully the motor commutator - the segments of copper the brushes run on.
i think you may find one or more segments lifted which would explain the clicking noise and maybe the burning smell. it would also explain the lack of motor rotation - just coincidence it happened on dry.

SMEG DWI410 TRIPS CIRCUIT LATE IN WASHING CYCLE

just possibly
take the kick panel off. On some smeg, there is a small suppressor capacitor on the lhs tucked in the wiring. this breaks down. snip it off - no need to replace
