    SOLUITION:

Firmware from Toshiba didn't seem to work

The solution to CD/DVD combo drive firmware problem (no visible CD/DVD Rom drive) after recent OS reinstallation from OEM restore disks can be found on the MS site:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/e...

Hope this helps someone else. You will have to edit your registry settings in Vista to get this particular drive up and running.

You seem to be onto things (though your problem classification was generic instead of for your Toshiba model A305.) Install all the updated drivers for your laptop from the laptop's support site (Toshiba's, that is) so you can use your drive. Drives fail sometimes, and you could try sticking an old movie or something in there instead of nothing, but it is likely it is just the missing driver.

So the problem is actually Windows Vista, and the entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} which gets UpperFilters and LowerFilters which have to be deleted, but then CD burning (...why not just say automotive applicaions...) might be disaffected, it says.  People, this is why you should use other OS unless and until you want to run DirectX video games.

The Cause is given as (Microsoft!  But also:)
One of the following scenarios is true:
    • The filter drivers in the CD and the DVD storage stack are not migrated successfully to Windows Vista.
    • You uninstalled CD software that fails to properly remove itself in the registry.
    • You installed software that adds filter drivers in the CD and the DVD storage stack that interfere with existing filters (because there's only supposed to be one entry and there aren't any coping mechanisms in there.)

Put the "System Restore" disk into the drive,
and restart your computer.
Choose to "change boot order" so that the first boot-device is your CD/DVD unit.
Your computer *WILL* boot from the disk in the drive,
allowing you to reinstall Windows.

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.

I can't play CD/DVD from my laptop. When i opened the device manager, there are 2 drives: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA Device and WC6037K IYL929R SCSI CdRom Device. The first device doesn't work when i...

In Laptop obviously there is only one CD/DVD rom drive present.

So first confirm have you got any mark in the device manager entry for WC6037K IYL929R SCSI CdRom Device. If yes then you need to go in the BIOS and detect the Boot priority and enable the CD Rom there.
Check out the event viewer entry if showing any red cross entry related to CD/DVD rom and try to search it out on net.

If the CD/DVD drive is opening or ejecting out then it working and if it is not may be the failure in Drive and need to replace.

Other entry you had mentioned is for RAM (memory)
