Yeah, well you turned Autorun off, it seems. Does the drive even show among the other ones on your computer on the desktop? And doubleclicking that does nothing?

Perhaps your antivirus is also preventing autorun.

Otherwise, make sure power and the USB connection are as good as can be expected.

I want to change language of my ibm netvista desktop

The IBM Netvista should have options to change the language settings built in if you read the manual but generally, if you follow these instructions it usually works.

Go to the BIOS utility and change the language:

To run the Setup Utility program, use the following procedure.

1. Shut down the computer and wait for all lights go off.
2. Start the computer.
3. When the Setup Utility prompt appears on the screen during start-up, press F1. A Setup Utility menu will appear.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5. When finished, select System Summary to verify that any configuration changes have been accepted.

Enable PS2 & USB in BIOS You can enable PS2 and USB settings in BIOS by entering the BIOS setup screen when the computer boots. You will need to changes to the appropriate settings in this screen. The exact procedures vary by system, but there are a few common methods that may work if the motherboard manual is not available for guidance. The general procedure is the same for any modern computer system, but the menu arrangement and keystrokes to enter the setup program can vary greatly from one machine to the next. Power on or restart the computer and watch the initial boot screen to find the keystroke required to enter BIOS setup. This is often shown at the bottom of the screen. Change the settings for the USB port by moving the menu choice to the "USB" setting. Press "Enter" to bring up a smaller menu with options to enable or disable the USB ports. Select "Enabled." Alternatively, use the arrow keys or the plus key to change the current selection from "Disabled" to "Enabled" in order to enable the USB port. Save the settings and exit by pressing "F10" or using the "Esc" key to back out of the current menu. Choose to save and exit from the main menu if needed. Follow any additional instructions on the screen to save or navigate the menus. Hope this helps.

How do I know if my boot ste up is correct

If your PC doesn't boot up using the hard drive, you can check that by looking for the F2 or F12 displayed on the screen during boot up. Then start pressing F2 or F12 quickly to get setup.
In setup follow the directions and set your "boot device" to "hard drive"
Hope this is what you needed.

My system (Sony VIAO running VISTA) will not recgonize my external harddrive (MyBook 500gb). Per the instructions it is supposed to be automatically recgonized upon startup/plugging in the usb.

Vista operating system is built to be security conscious about what they must accept or deny. But in any case,
1.check to make sure that the usb cable use for the connection is healthy.

2. Test the device with a different pc or laptop to be sure the fault is not from the device.

3.make sure that the usb port is enabled if not access your setup utility to do so

Asus P5KC board has esata but cannot get my WD Mybook recognised. Should the J-Micron eSata controller be in "IDE" mode? Would appreciate guidance. J.O.

If you are connecting the mybook to the esata than the controller should be on esata.

This link is a generic users manual.

But by all accounts after you set it up and press the power button on the back of the MY BOOK you then power up the PC and use the MY BOOK's Disk managment to reformat it to NTFS because by default it is formated FAT32.

Unfortunately if there is no driver for Vista, then your out of luck. Since Vista is a widely used OS and getting bigger, then the MyBook manufactures must create a Vista driver soon or they will be in danger of going out of business. Just wait and periodically check the MyBook website for new drivers.
