Magellan GPS 310 screen or software gone haywire...
My work gave this GPS saying it has died. But I'm wondering if I could get it going again. When I power it up it only parts of the letters appear. Then when it is on the tracking 'page' it's the same problem. Then when I turn the light on the numbers and letters go crazy. And it just shows up random junk. I know that the screen still works because when you turn the light on it activates all of the parts of the letters. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

You might have an sd card inserted that contains information that the unit doesn't recognize. This happened to me when I tried to fudge some old magellan destination maps onto the sd card...the format was wrong and the unit froze...gave me the message.
I Experienced the same problem the last two weeks. I read your suggestion about the right key/power button. The GPS asked me wheter I wanted to clear the memory yes or no. After "yes" i had to reenter my country and date/time. After doing this it took gps310 more than an hour to get its first fix. But it works again.
Have you gone through the "Initialize" process again? If the memory has been cleared you will need to re-initialize. Refer to page 4 of your manual.
Power On > Select Language > "ENTER" > INITIALIZE screen > "ENTER" > Select Region > "ENTER" > Select Area > "ENTER" > Enter Elevation > "ENTER" (if you don't know elevation, press enter) > Enter Time > "ENTER" > Enter Date > "ENTER"
