Problems with flash and settings

Hi, I have just purchased a canon rebel xt, and I am having problems with the flash. When I got it, I put it onto manual settings, and played around with it a bit. I changed it back to auto settings, assuming that everything would go back to normal.
At night I try to use it and there is often a 5 or 6 second delay. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I wonder if it is on a timer delay? The inside screen says 'busy'.
I am in Korea and the instruction manual is in Korean - to complicate things!
How do I get it back to normal? it's driving me crazy!

Manuals in English and other languages may exist on the Internet. That will take some searching. Most of those user manuals are free for downloading in PDF, normally.

Try this: Reset ALL in the menus. This may work, and I have given this same resolve for a few here. I also have solved some of my camera problems by resetting the settings menu.

Go over all your settings again, making sure you have everything set for the kind of picture you want. For instance if you set the menu on landscape picture mode, the flash may not work, because you usually would not use flash outside in the open day. Some of the other settings may affect the flash and when it will flash.

We have a Canon rebel XT EOS the flash pops up no matter what the

Frustrating I am sure. I had the same problem on my first XTi. I cannot remember what the settings were, but I think I was set for portrait and had flash set as the white balance default source. Therefore the camera always popped up the flash assuming that I wanted or needed fill flash.

Change you white balance to sun/shade/tungston etc as is appropriate, choose a faster ISO speed in lower light levels and try using the P or Tv mode and use a shutter speed that generates a middle range aperature for your particular lens.

Pop up flash Pops up but does not flash

Sounds like the internal flash is broken. I have seen used cameras advertised with this condition so it is not uncommon.

Canon EOS/Rebel XT won't power up

Joe, this happened to me, just tonight... I got a new CF card and stuck it in, turned it on and one CF card flash. Completely dead from there. I found one of the CF card pins bent over, shorted out the socket and blew the mainboard fuse. I took the camera apart, found the fuse (labelled K) about under the set button area) I bridged the fuse with a bit of solder, straightened out the pin in the socket, put it all back together and it's working fine. The fuse is under the right side shield cover, it's labelled with a letter K. There is another fuse on the power inlet board (below the shutter button) and it's labelled 'P'...

Red tint when photo prints

I you're shooting indoors with incandescent lights, it will show up reddish. Change the white balance in the Menu to expose for indoor lights, or use the flash - set to the green rectangle setting.
