Your sound is muted. Click on that thing with red cirle with little x and a volume slide pop-up , uncheck the mute checkbox at the lower part then ur sound will be good.

My gateway computer will not stay on.

This could be difficult to trouble shoot without more information. The best place to start is go into Administrative tools.
1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
2. Select Administrative Tools and open the Event View.
3. Click on System and look for any Errors with a red circle with an X.
4. Double click on the red circle to view the error and it will identify what the error was.
5. There is a link which will give more detailed information on the error.
6. Also check Application and the other logs.
This is a good place to start, but I have seen Memory Modules cause this problem which you can download a free program like memtest86 to perform a better memory test than your BIOS can do.

Computer dont have no sound coming out

Have you checked the bios to see if the onboard sound card is "enabled" if not have you checked the drivers have been installed in the operating systems, if windows is installed look in the control pannel, select system, in the system properties popup select the Hardware tab, then select the Device manager button. A window will open with all of the devices that are installed and some may have a yellow circle with a ! inside and others may have a red circle. look at the Sound, Video and Games controllers click the cross in the box to the right hand side and see an Audio driver has been installed and that it matches the onboard sound device. if nothing install the original drivers supplied, if dont match a yellow circle will be shown select the driver with the yellow circle and delete it and then reinstall the correct driver, if you cant delete it right click and select properties from the dropdown menu and reinstall the drivers at this popup window

Hello there, I have a Dell computer and trying to use HP speakers with it. Will this not work? I am not hearing a sound and my computer shows no device for speakers.

The HP speakers should work fine with your Dell.
Make sure that you have the speakers plugged into the correct port on the back of the Dell (This is typically a green colored port) Once the speakers ar plugged in to the correct port make sure that your sound is not muted.

Click on Start then on Settings or Control Panel.
Once you get to the Control Panel double click on the Sound Icon.
Verufy that the sound is not muted and you can also check the box to display your voulume settings on the task bar.

You may also want to check that your sound card in correctly installed.

Check these items and let me know if there was any change because there can be other items to check - These are just a few good jumping off points

My volume on my computer dose not work could you help me i have a windows vista

goto where taskbar is and double click on the a silver ball or speaker looking button and that should pull up the volume mixer. now if the speaker or ball in the right bottom hand corner of the screen has a red circle with and slash throught it - that means its muted and unmute your speakers through the volume mixer. if there is no red circle the turn the volume up and you should hear sound. if you see none to those - them you may need to check if your speakers r intalled. also - make sure your external speakers are pluged into the green jack in the back of your computer

Have no sound on computor, wont play cds dvds or anything, have checked all volume levels etc dont even get start up tune, problem has only just started until last month i had all sounds etc

This could be caused by the sound either being muted or not installed correctly. To check to see if it disabled, look to see if theres a yellow speaker in the bottom right corner next to the time with a red circle with a slash through it. If thats there it means that the sound is muted. If you have xp, you can double click the speaker and there should be a option there that says Muted. Just uncheck that.
If the speaker isnt there it could be that the sound card is turned of in the device manager. To check this, you can click Start > Run > and type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. This will open device manager. Look for Sound Video and Game Controllers and see if theres a red x on thst section that means it disabled. You msy hsve to double click the sectio to see the actual card. The easiest way to correct thats if its a Dell, Gateway, HP,etc is to right click where the red x is and left click Uninstall or remove. After that you should see the card disappear from the device manager. After that happens you can restart the machine and it should say Found New Hardware and it will automatically reinstall the drivers.
If the machine isnt a pre-manufactured maachine like Dell, Gateway, HP, etc, you will need to make sure that you have the driver that camewith the card when it was installed.
