I finally fixed the problem myself(TomTom support not open on week-ends).I deleted all TomTom software and files, added an SD card for more memory, and then reloaded everything including new maps.Seems to be OK now.
Usually, you'll want to connect a new TomTom GPS to your computer, and (using TomTom HOME), register the device and get the latest maps (downloaded and) installed on your GPS. Then, you'll have maps on your GPS.
The problem with trying to put the full map of Europe on the 250 is that it doesn't have enough storage space. You can download the complete map however to your computer. The option to download again is available for approx 30 days. When it's on your computer you can select which maps you want to install to the satnav and install the complete map, if you want, to an SD card. You need a 4 Gb SD card to hold the complete map. To download the map again, to your computer, log into myGarmin. Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. There you'll see the map you downloaded. Under the map name you'll see the word "Details" in blue. Click on "Details" and it will take you to a screen where you have the option to download the map again. When you go to download the map it will by default select your satnav as the destination. Change it to your computer so you get the whole map and you can add or remove maps whenever you want.
you should download a new one, for your region, to change it and put in the navigator. and, for the future, every time before you make some changes, save all the content in one folder on your pc.
First press tools, then settings and then maps. Press map info and the name of your map should be displayed with a tick beside it. If there's no tick press the map name and a tick will appear beside it. The map is now selected and should be ok.
The problem of east/west may be solved when the map is sorted out. If not change the voice. Press tools, settings, language and the voice name and select another voice. If there's not another english speaking voice you can connect your satnav to the computer and open webinstaller. When it finishes checking for software updates it will give you the option to download new voices. Tick the ones you want and then press next. They will be downloaded and then when you have disconnected from the pc go through the process of selecting a new voice again.
Hi I had this problem with a christmas present.
I contacted Garmin gave then details of where bought etc and true to their word they sent me a new map update.
regards
Maurice
Its more than likely that your NEW SD card is faulty. First thing i suggest is you try another card. Then recopy everything off your old card and then recopy the western erope map also.
