An Empty Stripe along the right side of portrait setting
I have a Dell 3000cn color laser printer. In March I started to get an empty stripe (no print for about 1/4 inch on the right side of a portrait page or the bottom of a landscape page. I read what I could and decided to purchase a new imaging drum. I replaced and the problem disappeared for maybe 100 pages and then it came back, so I doubt that it is an drum problem. Can you help me. I have to write in the missing information or make a very wide margin that really doesn't work for some printing needs I have.
I REALLY would APPRECIATE your valuable expertise.

Possible reasons are: 1.empty toner cartridge, 2.dirt under one of the toner cartridge's developing roller, 3. dirt on the primary charge roller in the drum cartridge, 4. obstacle on the laser path.
Replace the empty toners first and try printing again. Follow the next steps if it didn't solve the problem.
Print a test page with 4 stripes across the page - black, cyan, yellow and magenta. See if all have the missing toner line or only one of them. If the white stripe is going trough only one color, inspect the cartridge with that color. It has to have the same stripe on the developing roller. See if there is some dust beneath it that makes the stripe and clean it with a brush. If the stripe is across all colors, then inspect the drum unit. The drum itself has to be evenly shining on the light. If there are uneven matte tracks on it, consider replacing. There should be a gap somewhere for the laser beam to pass and the drum is visible trough it. Look trough it for obstacles like piece of paper or hair. The primary charge roller has to be close to that gap inside, touching the drum. Look for dirt on it. Clean if possible.
Toner cartridges last approx. 6500 pages. The drum cartridge lasts between 14 000 and 28 000 pages depending on the color use.

You most likely have a defective cartridge. It is also possible that your Charge and/or Transfer rollers have become defective.
Inspect the cartridge for any band of remaining toner.
You should notice one or two long thin rollers, with the cartridge removed. There will be a dark roller that should appear textured, but not dull. And they may also be a lighter colored roller with no marks.
These are the three common problems that create lines.
Lastly If the band is mostly straight, it is most likely the cartridge
If the band is wavy or broken in anyway, it is probably the roller(s)
The instructions always come with the new cartridges and also are printed on the new cartridges. You move the right hand (colored) side up to unlock. Carefully pull the cartridge up and out (you can screw up the gears if you don't put the cartridges in and out straight. Make sure you've followed the instructions that come with the new toner cartridge (removing tape, shaking), put it in the same way and move the right hand side down to lock.
