Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV
This is usually the high voltage on the inverter, balancer or backlight arcing to the chassis or at the connections. One quick fix was to look for a burn spot under the inverter(s). If that's the case, insulate the chassis at the point of the spot with a few layers of electrical tape 600v dialectric strength or better and carefully clip the leads just above the solder joint on the inverter board to widen the arc gap. If the white pink wire connectors arc too long they will charr requiring replacement. Cost varies depending on the problem.

Could be the inverter board.
