Question about Gateway PC Desktops

1 Answer

When I bought my computer in April 2006 I paid for McAfee Internet Security 36 month subscription, even though I did not have internet. I was told that it would be activated when I had my internet. I finally got connected, but don't know how to activate the McAfee Internet Security. I get a pop-up asking if I want to register, but nothing happens. Perhaps you can e-mail and let me know what to do. Thanks.

You will need to contact McAfee support either by e-mail or online chat. I find that on-line support gets things resolved faster that a e-mail

Have whatever information about the purchase ready when you contact McAfee support.

No, fixya is not a part of any manufactor. It's a web site to try and help people with some problem's that they are having trouble with,

You said you bought your computer in 2006, and you bought McAfee Internet Security at the time of purchase. I figure you would have to activate it through McAfee, and they should have a record of the sale.

A few question for you if I might. How are you connected,, how much ram do you have,, dual core or single and what windows are you running??

I know some might disagree with me, but Norton and McAfee Security suite do slow pc's down alot if you run alot of programs or don't know how to use "msconfig" to shut useless programs from running, or don't have enought ram installed.

I have had to clean many very slow pc's of the security programs to get them to work faster.

Some of the best protection is free to use, and catches the same , if not more virus without using much system resources.

    Some are http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-...

    http://www.free-av.com/ and http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-F...

A good spyware program is http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybo...

When I installed Avast in a computer I was fixing after taking out Norton, It found a virus as soon as it was installed that Norton missed.

If you still want McAfee installed, you should contact them.

Good Luck, need more help, just ask

(Important: Before uninstalling your McAfee product, please make sure that your Norton is functioning properly and is up-to-date for better protection of your system.)

Are you using free trial version of McAfee virus protection or is it paid?
Here's how you can remove McAfee from your system:
You can remove the application from your system by following the uninstallation steps mentioned below:
For Windows 8 users:
1) Close all McAfee program windows.
2) In the Start screen, type "Programs and Features". (If it is not visible, click "Settings" in the list on the right.)
3) Click "Programs and Features" in the list on the left.
4) Select "McAfee SecurityCenter".
5) Click "Uninstall" and follow any on-screen prompts.
For Windows 7 and Vista users:
1) Close all McAfee program windows.
2) Click "Start", go to "Search", then type "Programs and Features", and click "Go".
3) Double-click "Programs and Features".
4) Select "McAfee Security Center".
5) Click "Uninstall" and follow any on-screen prompts.

For Windows XP users:
1) Close all McAfee program windows.

3) Double-click "Add or Remove Programs".
4) Select "McAfee Security Center".

If you are not able to completely remove McAfee from your system by following the above steps, you can consider using McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool to uninstall the application successfully. You will need to cancel your Norton subscription and use one of their products that is suitable for Vista. May I suggest that you purchase Norton Internet security 2009 for a single payment of about 70 dollars.

Hello,

What a nightmare.

Good old McAfee at it again. Do a Google search for Mcafee contact phone numbers and call in directly.

Or go to bbbonline.org and search for McAfee and you should find contact info there. Explain your problem and get a higher up to solve this for you by using these phone numbers.

Please do not rate this, I'm only guiding you, unless it does lead to a fix for you. Which may take a while.

Glad to help you get started here. I'm not looking or asking you to rate this, in fact I'd rather you didn't as there is no fix just a method of getting your answers you deserve as a subscriber to McAfee.

Regards,
Worldvet
