Are you talking about it asking for a Network Key or are you trying to login to the web interface of the router to configure it?

At any rate, if it's a network key you're looking for and you do not remember it I would connect your laptop to the router using a network cable and log into the web interface to reconfigure the key. All you need is the IP Address of the router which you can find by going to a command prompt (START MENU | RUN | Type CMD | Click OK) and typing IPCONFIG. Hit Enter and you will find the "DEFAULT GATEWAY". This IP Address is the address fo the router.

Put the ip address in your address bar in internet explorer or whatever browser you use. Log into the router. If you never created a password the default for most LINKSYS routers is a blank username and admin as the password.

You can go to the wireless security section and change the security key.

Hope this helps.

I want to change the username and password for afaq shamel modem. do i have to restart the modem after changing username and password. moreover, do i have to keep the modem connected with my laptop while...

You should not have to restart your modem after changing the password. Once you change that password you might be promt to enter your new password in to establish an internet connection following the password change. The preferred method to to access your modem is through your computer with the modems IP address.By default most of the afaq shamels passwords are as follows:
Default IP: 192.168.1.1
Username: Afaq_shamel
Password: stccpe_2007

Type in that IP address in any internet browser (Fire Fox, IE, etc) You should be prompt to enter in a user name and password. If the one mentioned above does not work try:
Username: admin
Password: password

I hope that this helps you along the way. let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you.
Thank you

I have used the netgear wgr614 wireless router in unsecured mode to run two laptops for a couple of years now.... yes, I know that is stupid....now! So after a security breach, I realize I need to secure...

  1. Install the router. To install a Netgear wireless router, use an Ethernet cable to connect the router to the cable/DSL modem and use another Ethernet cable to connect the router to your computer. Make sure all of these devices are powered off as you connect them. Once connected, turn on the cable/DSL modem, the router, then the computer, in that order. Allow at least two minutes to pass after turning on each device to give the devices time to recognize one another.

  2. Log in to the router. Open a web browser and type in the router's address to load the router's settings page. The router's address can be found in the user guide or setup CD that came with your router, or you can download a user guide from Netgear's technical support page (see Resources). Most Netgear routers use one of the following addresses: http://192.168.1.1; http://www.routerlogin.net; or http://www.routerlogin.com. Press "Enter" or click "Go" in your web browser after you have entered the address.

  3. Enter the router's username and password. A prompt will appear on the screen when you enter your router's address, requiring you to enter a username and password before you can access the router's settings page. The default username for Netgear routers is "username" and the password is "password." Because the textboxes are case-sensitive, you must enter both of these using all lowercase letters. Press "Enter" to log in to the router and begin changing its security settings.

  4. Open the security settings menu. The router's home page has multiple links for changing settings. Find and click the "Security Settings" link to change the router's security settings.

  5. Change the SSID, choose an encryption setting and create a password. The default name (or "SSID") of your wireless network will be "NETGEAR." Enter a new, memorable name for your wireless network to help detract would-be hackers from trying to access your router, as most novice computer users with unsecure networks do not know how to change the default network name or institute any other security features. Newer Netgear routers offer WPA or WPA-PSK encryption to secure your network, both of which provide high levels of security. Select either of these. encryption types and create a unique password. This will require all users to enter the password before they can log in to your wireless network. It is important that you create a complex password that has several characters, including numbers. Once you have created a password, click "Confirm Password" to save it. To exit the security settings menu and log off of the router, click "Save" or "Apply" to save the changes you made, then click "Logout" to exit the router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy Holidays!

Thanks, Joe

in the welcome screen where it asks you to to enter the new password, press ctrl+alt+del twice... the screen will change and it will ask you to enter the username and password...

Enter your user name as administrator and password (type the administrator password if you have created one) or leave it blank...

if it asks for the correct administrator password contact your laptop vendor who installed the windows Operating system on this computer for the administrator password...

once you have logged in as administrator you can delete the old unwanted account or change the password for the other account...

Hi, I need to unlock my belkin N router because I have misplaced the password and can not connect my ipod or any other technology to it... Can you please help?

Restoring the Factory Defaults
Press and hold the “Reset” button for at least 10 seconds, then
release it. The lights on the Router will momentarily flash. The
“router” light will begin to blink. When the “router” light becomes
solid again, the default restore is complete.

Then, use your Setup CD and go though the setup wizard and you'll be back up again soon!

Cant connect to internet with laptop

Well sir in this case just make sure you are trying to connect to your own network , and even after that it's not working then try configuring the wireless setting's on the device.
Following steps will help you out:-
a)Use an ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
b)In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 by default.
c)When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it.
d)Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar.
e)ssid:-any name , channel:-11 , mode:-g and b
f)Under Security Options, select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) or WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key).
For WEP:-
authentication type should be automatic and encryption strength should be 64-bit.
passphrase:-leave that blank and only select key1 from the list of four keys and in the key1 box type your telephone no. without the numeral 0 in the beginning or enter 10 hexadecimal digits of your choice and apply the setting's.
The number in the key1 box will act as the password to connect to the wireless.
For wpa-psk:-
In the passphrase box enter any password of your own choice between 8 to 63 characters which will be
password to connect to the wireless and apply the setting's.

Reset a password for IBM NWAYS Router 2210 Model 12E

Does this mean anything to you Remote Login Names and Passwords During a remote login, the device prompts you for a login name and password. You can display the login name when logged in to the device from a remote console by using a device status command. Logging in Remotely or Locally Logging in to a local console is the same as logging in to a remote console except that you must connect to the device by starting Telnet on your host system. To log in remotely, begin at step 1. To log in locally, begin at step 3. To log in from a remote console: 1. Connect to the device by starting Telnet on your host system. Your host system is the system to which remote terminals are connected. 2. Supply the device?s name or Internet Protocol (IP) address. To use device names, your network must have a name server. Issue either the device name or the IP address as shown in the following example: % telnet brandenburg or % telnet 128.185.132.43 At this point, it makes no difference whether you have logged in remotely or locally. 3. If you are prompted, enter your login name and password. login: Password: It is possible that there is a login and no password. The password controls access to the device. If a password has not been set, press the Enter key at the Password: prompt. Logins are not set automatically. For security, you can set up user names and passwords using the add user command in the CONFIG process. For additional information, see the add user configuration command, on 56. Remember to reload or restart to activate any changes. Note: If you do not enter a login name and valid password within 1 minute of the initial prompt, or if you enter an incorrect password three times in succession, the device drops the Telnet connection. 4. Press the Enter key to display the asterisk (*) prompt. You may have to press the Enter key more than once or press Ctrl-P to obtain the * prompt. Once at this level, you can begin to enter commands from the keyboard. Press the Backspace key to delete the last character typed in on the command line. Press the Delete key or Ctrl-U to delete the whole command line entry so that you can reenter a command. See ?Command Completion? on page 20 and ?Command History? on page 23 for more information. You can also use local Telnet commands on your Telnet client to close the Telnet connection.
