You might try checking you monitor setup, you should be able to shut it off by unckng the proper box

I f you see the message on the screen indicating 'NO INPUR SIGNAL', you need to check the VGA cable and both ends of the connectors also. Try this monitor with other PC also.

This SDM-HS73/93 have common problem: bad backlight assemblies due to poor workmanship in sodlering works, see my pictures below. You should also inspect the caps. This is not recommend for DIY.

Common failure in the SDM-HS73/93 is the bad lamps assembly due to poor soldering works.

put you windows diskin the computer and start with the disk then run VS sounds like a virus. If that don't work go online and download new drivers

Here is one thing you can do to help get to the root of your problem.

Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen once it has gone to black. If you are able to see the screen information (your desktop) then you have a back light problem.

The fact that the bulbs come on at first and then go dark tells me that it is probably not the bulbs themselves and the fact that your power led stays on tells me that it is probably not the power supply either.

The most likely cause is the power inverter board which is usually a separate board attached to the video mother board and it powers the back light bulbs.

This is not an easy fix for someone who is not familiar with LCD displays but it can be done. I did a Google search on Sony SDM-X73 (if that is your monitor) and could not find any stand out instances of complaints. I also did a eBay search and could not find anyone selling replacement boards either.

Truthfully, my solution for you would be to replace the monitor. It will probably cost you more to have someone work on the monitor and fix it than it is worth. You can find 17 inch flat panels on eBay or CraigsList for cheap these days and I just saw a brand new Acer 22" with a 3 year warranty on CompUsa.com the other day for $150.00.

You can try taking it apart if you want to but recycling it is the better option.

Sony does not sell replacement parts to the general public, only a Sony authorized repair center can get you these parts.
