Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

EMachines not powering up

I have an eMachines D2823... It's older, but reliable and isnt used for anything beyond internet use. When I push the power button, no lights or power. Checked power cord and outlets. Replaced power supply with comparable 250w supply and green light on MB stays light when plugged in and faint humming sound coming from the area near the 20-pin connector. To verify I didnt get a bad unit, I re-installed the old PS, and now noticed that it also lights the green light and makes the humming noise somewhere on the MB. Removed the front cover for access to power switch in case of bad switch and have "straight wired" the black/white wires together to eliminate switch failure, still no power-up. I'm out of options without electracuting myself to repair the machine! Help?

You may have updated windows to a point that this old machine cant handle the revamp. Kick back to an older ops system, although that poses security risks. Your motherboard may also have given up. Best advice - upgrade, and retire this machine to the recycle bin.

Got a machine but it keeps switching off after few minutes could it be power switch on front if so where can i get one

It isnt the power switch, it's the power supply itself. You need to get a new one from bestbuy.com, Tigerdirect.com or Geeks.com.

Emachines are notorious for their bad power supplies, and they usually burn out the motherboard when they die. Stop pushing that button and get a new Power supply before your board messes up.

Have issues with desktop freezing up and or slowing after I changed power otions. It used to cut out all together. It is an Emachine T5048

You should check your fan isnt clogged up with anything.

If its still slow it may be a virus problem. Scan your computer .

If this still continues then re-install windows

Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 - Will not power on

OK, got it.
The drive itself may not be damaged, since there are some failsafe options built in the drive. This is really a tech job and beyond your 'fixin' it, dude to taking the unit apart and find the 'fuse' on the board that blown... requires soldering and lots of know-how :)

You may take the unit to a reputable service place and ask them what can be done. Explain as what happened. Some may not want to do anything with it due to lack of expert knowledge.

The best advice is to write/call the mfg and ask them what can be done. They may even have an option to fix these things quite reasonably. Maxstor is not a very reliable drive to beging with, but they may have an answer for you. I know for sure that they can recover it, regardless what happened.

In the future look for Seagate drives in the 500Gb range. They're very reliable and long waranty period. Don't buy anything smaller, they are NOT that reliable in the 40-300 Gb range.

Hope this helped some :)
cheers

Hi dallasblue08,

Here's a diagram of what your looking for:

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):
T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2885 D2823 T2862 T2896 T2898 T2958

Emachine t2742 I also have a wiring problem!

gtater,
It's ironic that you ask me this question today-- i am just now carrying in another eMachine computer to fix. Anyway, unfortunately I do not have one that is the same model as yours (T2742). However, I did some quick research and found that yours has the same exact motherboard as the T2898 which I made the diagram for!

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):
T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2885 D2823 T2862 T2896 T2898 T2958

For further reference, I would like to share this diagram for the eMachines T6544 in case someone else may need this model. This is the computer I just carried in... might as well share.

By the way, the power switch doesn't need to be oriented any particular way (positive and negative), which is why the switches are not labeled as + or -. Switches can be wired either way and they will work the same.

Hope this helps.

I hope that you took it back to them.
Have them check the power supply, too. Besides, a bad power switch and connections that would be the only thing that would be keep it from starting.
