Question about Sharp AL-1642CS Copier

Prints and scans fine, but copies are all black

Our Sharp AL-1642CS prints fine from the computer, and scans fine into the computer, but when we try to copy something everything is too dark--even the blank area around the item to be copied is dark black.

The charge wire is clean, and everything in that area is good. The green drum is clean. The toner needed light is on, but that isn't causing this problem. We're stumped!

Could it be in the firmware? This is the one thing that doesn't go through the computer.
Would changing the firmware to a later model help? Can you download that and install it from the computer?

    I checked with Tom, who actually owns it, and he says 6000 copies.

    Firmware is only available from a technician if there is any.



    How many copies do you think you have ran on it?

Easy problem, the mirrors in the optics area are dust or dirt covered. Remove the plastic cover from the top right side (2 screws) lift up the glass, move the scanner bar towards you and clean all of the mirrors.

This is a common problem in ALL copiers in a dusty environment, or even in a clean one after a while. the mirrors just tend to collect dust.

Hold down the auto expsoure key the the lights will began to blink light copies then push it again to hold lighter expsoure.

Problem on three things.
1.OPC drum cleaning blade is very old,so lost her activities.
2. Laser unite very dirty,so you need clean.
3. setup or configure exposure control.

when exposure light indicate now position,select way lighter side.

Blank pages means the Drum becomes bad, Change the Drum.

Printing problem on Sharp Copier Al 1642CS


it would have spilled toner on the laser unit glass which can be accessed after removing the developer & drum units. Its on the upper part inside the machine in the drum chamber.

You can go into your print driver and change the Driver. I dont think there is a difference between Home or Prem drivers. There is how ever a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit Vista?
When you set up the printer and share it from a PC, The printer attached to that PC can Control the Configurartion of the printer. PC's can either pull the driver from the sharing PC or you can select your own.

I would first check that the correct drivers are installed, (64bit or 32bit)
I would check the computer that is trying to print. replace the driver with the correct one.
You can open the print server -open the printers and fax folder, right click in a white area in that folder, a menu should pop up. Select Print Server from there you will see tabs, try to replace the driver from there.
Or Open the Printer Properties and there you will see Driver-Update in there.

Thou it was made for XP but the basic Infomation is the same.

if scanner is not going all the way back you need to ck the home posinson senser it may be dirty.

"Scanning in progress" reported even when I'm not scanning anything


You need to install the print driver and Sharpdesk before you connect the USB cable.
