Just formatted Vosonic VP2160 using instructions on http://photo.net/equipment/vosonic/vp-2160/. However G:/ disk drive does not show but E: and F: removable disk does

G:/ is meant to be storage device and E and F are drives for SD and another camera card. I'm wondering if the HDD was meant to be partitioned before formatting. If this was the case, how can the HDD be partitioned?

Is G a usb device? make sure you have the correct drivers installed for it. Go to it's manufacturers website and download the current drivers for it for the operating system you are using.

Identity safe is gone on Inspiron 15-R laptop

Correction The Identity Safe is still there, the data contained in it is gone.

This is a problem that has many possible causes. It can not be sorted out in one step.

Solution

1) Run a Full Virus Scan
2) Run Scan Disk
3) Run Disk Defrag
4) Run Memcheck from the dos prompt

If all results are ok run System Restore or Restore from a System Backup.

If the Virus Scan shows a Problem than follow the onscreen instructions to clear the problem.

If the Disk Scan shows a problem than you can ether follow the onscreen instruction to clear the problem if it is a software problem (usually requires format of the hard drive, so backup your data) or if it is a hardware problem you may need to buy a new Hard Drive.

If Disk Defrag shows a problem you need to replace the Hard Drive.

If Memcheck shows a problem you need to replace your RAM, however this is unlikely unless you are getting BSOD's on a regular basis.

Feel free to contact me for further instruction.

[Be warned: this will erase everything on your drive. Be careful.]<br /> <ol> <li>Plug in your USB Flash Drive</li> <li>Open a command prompt as administrator (Right click on Start &gt; All Programs &gt; Accessories &gt; Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator"</li> <li>Find the drive number of your USB Drive by typing the following into the Command Prompt window:<br /> <span>diskpart<br /> list disk</span><br /> The number of your USB drive will listed. In the same command window that you were using in Step 1:<br /> <ol> <li>Insert your Windows Vista / 7 DVD into your drive.</li> <li>Change directory to the DVD's boot directory where <i>bootsect</i> lives:<br /> <span>d:<br /> cd d:\boot</span></li> <li>Use <i>bootsect</i> to set the USB as a bootable NTFS drive prepared for a Vista/7 image. I'm assuming that your USB flash drive has been labeled disk G:\ by the computer:<br /> <span>bootsect /nt60 g:</span></li> <li>You can now close the command prompt window, we're done here.</li></ol> <b>Step 3: Copy the installation DVD to the USB drive<br /> </b>The easiest way is to use Windows explorer to copy all of the files on your DVD on to the formatted flash drive. After you've copied all of the files the disk you are ready to go.<br /> <b>Step 4: Set your BIOS to boot from USB<br /> </b>This is where you're on your own since every computer is different. Most BIOS's allow you to hit a key at boot and select a boot option.<br /> <br />

Have you tried booting from a Windows XP CD? If you have one available you can boot from it, delete the partition and format it. Works all the time for me.

Trying 2 trsnfr data off win98 drives to xp drives dont show up

well first of all it would more than likely be a raw data file format for the older 2 drives.

if u are currently running xp with ntfs and know tht the 2 old drives were a fat32 mft then i would recommend using getdataback for fat.

this is the site's info on it
http://www.runtime.org/diskexplorer.htm#DE_FAT

using this link to d/l the program trial
http://www.runtime.org/gdb.zip

it will allow you to d/l the program and to also view the contents of the drive. if you know of a way to get the full version of this software then you could take all of the files from the old hd's and paste them to the newer hd just in case you could not recover the files by normal means. i have recovered roughly 10 hd's that could not be seen normally through the disk manager in xp.

also another tips to try is go to the my computer right click and go to manage. try to see if the volume (name) is not mounted. but it the type or format of the hd says raw then your best to use the getdataback program.

easy to follow instructions on how to use the program. is about 4mb in size.

Using windows dvd maker vista with sp1 starts to burn then at about 98% get error message and stops the burn. also when i try to format a dvd disc ready to burn that wont work and the dvd drive d is...

two things. Firsly make sure that you are using the correct disks i.e if your drive is dvd-r then only use dvd-r disks, if its dvd+r then only use dvd+r disks if it is a multi drive then it won't matter what disks you use. Secondly don't format the disk first. If it asks you to format the disk click on the X to shut the pop up box. Only put the disk in when dvd maker asks for you to insert a disk.
