Hi there!

Try to access the Advance booting option by press F8 continuesly when start up boot and run the safe mode. Your computer will run on mini drivers loaded and low VGA graphic and uninstall software or hardware that corrupted your operating system or run virus scan if virus attacked your computer.

Try also to run system restore to bring back your old configuration but back up your files before doing this. Go to start menu, choose accessories, choose system tools, choose system restore and choose the date with with good configuration settings.

Effective way to repair your black screenis to put Windows installer CD or system back up disc into the CDROM drive and run the repair mode. This will fix the errors in your computer.

I hope it helps you.

I have a Toshiba laptop with a Windows 7 operating system AND A BLACK SCREEN WITH AN ARROW(curser) ON IT

Try running the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

HP compaq evo 610c after booting only compaq logo appears and then screen goes black.. I have connected a external monitor, it is working fine

Restart the laptop, hit F10 to get into the BIOS. Arrow over to the Advanced menu and then down to Device options. After or before the "USB legacy support" option, there may be a external monitor setting. If it is there, change that, as it may be set to only work with an external monitor connected. After making changes hit F10 to accept.

Arrow over to the File menu and to "Save changes and exit". Reboot. Try that, if it doesn't work, re-enter the BIOS (F10). Arrow over to the File menu and to "Restore defaults". Then "Save changes and exit". Reboot.

Computer starts but can't get it to boot up

If you can get to the Dell logo hit the f8 key a few times when you see that screen. This will take you to the windows repair screen. Its a black screen with multiple options, arrow down to the option that says restore to last known good configuration and hit enter. You will get a screen with some dates on it, choose the date that you know your computer was working fine, hit enter and the computer will reboot and if all goes well, you should get into windows. Hope this helps

Computer won't boot Windows Vista. Screen goes black with cursor arrow.

In this case you have to do the PC restore . you can do that in dell machines by shutting down the machine and when it is coming back on just HOLD DOWN THE CTRL ket and the START HITTING f11 key in this case you will lose the data which you have the on the c drive but this issue will get resolved .

Else you can try to restart in the safe mode with networking and then go to the system restore and then select the bold dates in which you have idea you system was working fine . selct the date and then do the system restore . In this case you will not lose the data but you will lose the updates which you have done after that date .

in both the cases system will work .

Cannot start Sony VAIO PCG-5J2L /Goes to black screen only

During start-up the computer will go to a black screen for awhile and then the pointer arrow will show alone, and then the system will come up.

If you think it's a hibernation problem, pull the ac plug and battery out for about 1 hour and then plug back in.

If this didn't work, then try the F8 Key and choose "Last Know Good Configuration".
