Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Samsung DVD-VR330. Screen says "Safe". No buttons will work except on and off. Was watching a tape and evidently hit a button (or two at once) and this happened. There is nothing in the book that addresses this problem

Hi sharwilder,

I was able to locate this in your manual. It is on page 13 where your remote buttons are mapped. You should be able to unlock the unit by holding the "info" button for about 5 seconds. This is also how it would have been activated.

Thank you,

When I insert a tape, it is immediately ejected. it had been working fine until this evening.

Probably you are inserting a tape taht has it;s safe tab removed, and you unit is set to record.
Put some clear tape over the hole and try it.
Or try a different tape.

Could not finalize disc because of error detection

First try reinserting, but it's probably hit a bad spot.
Might be useable as a data disk. Do a complete format which will lock out the bad spots.

I must replace my broken Samsung DVD-VR330, which is broken, with a comparable model through Amazon.com. Here are the apparent choices: DVD-375A, DVD-V9700, and Multiformat DVD Recorder & VCR COMBO....

I recommend to go for DVD-375A as it is newer and can play MPEG4 · DivX · JPEG also. Newer models are likely to have more support from manufacturer. The other model (DVD-V9700) may cost less but has less functions and is discontinued (according to cnet). If you buy the newer model then you might be able to use it longer as new products come out meaning to be future safe.
