We have the same problem. It seems that the very lower 'lip' of the wand gets stuck on the ribbed edges of the hose. When it is full on the DC17, in the upright position, this lip is closest to the ground, at the base of the unit. Pulling as hard as I can will not release it (with the top flipped open). The only way we can release the wand is to do a comnbination of pulling on the wand straight up while pulling the hose down at the base. With a little work, you will be able to pull a lot of the hose and eventually the wand will slide up. This may take two people - one to pull the wand up and the other to pull the hose down.

I am not sure if this is a common occurrence, but the machine was fine before a few weeks ago. Other than this, it is a brilliant vacuum!

I just took my DC17 apart to determine the problem (noted above). Basically it seems like there is a 'nub' on the lower part of the extension wand. Actually, there are two on either side, one higher (white, facing the back) than the other (black, facing the front). The lower one (black) acts as a brake for when you yank the wand out - it stops the wand from coming out all the way. The little black nub is hitting the inside ribs of the hose and stopping, impeding the wand from pulling out. What seems to have happened is that the hose has constricted a little too much and the diameter is 'smaller' by just a little and therefore the nub catches. Use the trick I mentioned above to work the hose off, a little at a time. Once you get enough hose, you can stretch the hose and it will then pull out without catching. To keep it from doing it again? I am not sure, but if you were to turn the wand/hose counter-clockwise to loosen the coil inside the hose, this may just open up the inside a little bit. I have done this and it is seeming to work. So every time I use the wand, I will unwind the hose counter-clockwise a little bit and see if this helps....

Lift up the circle "grate" at the top of the wand - exptend the wand completely and then grab the handle and lift up. We had EXACTLY the same issue -

Try lowering the wand and then pulling it up with a fast motion. it should click out easily

One of the attachments(TURBO BRUSH) is stuck on the extention bar, and will not budge AT ALL. Please Help! I love my DYSON!!

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If you have the mini turbine head attached to the end of the wand, it should just be held in place by friction. Gripping the turbine head firmly, whilst pulling and twisting it, should free it from the wand.

If you need any further assistance, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly, so we can help you resolve the issue as quickly as possible. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07 Animal. From what you've described, it sounds as if the wand has been replaced on the cleaner without the hose being retracted. To remove the wand from the machine, hold the cleaner securely in place by placing one foot on the cleaner head, then pull the wand up forcefully whilst holding the purple quick-draw hose release (located above the on/off switch) down. Make sure you are not leaning over the top of the wand as you do this.

Once you've freed the wand from the cleaner, make sure you retract the wand before replacing it on the cleaner again. Hold down the hose release button on the hose cuff as you retract the wand inside the hose.

You might find it useful to refer to the user guide supplied with the cleaner - in case you don't have this to hand, you can download a copy here:

I just received a DC 28 animal vacuum and I cannot pull the extension wand out. I see the button to make the wand go up out of the hose, but I cannot figure out how to release the handle from the vacuum. ...

Hi there,

The Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand on your DC28 is designed to detatch from the cleaner automatically when you extend the wand to it's fullest extent. When you replace the wand on the cleaner, the wand will retract automatically down inside the hose. The button on the rear of the wand which you mention will separate the end of the hose from the wand, so you can use the hose without the wand attached when cleaning in tighter spaces. You do not need to press this to extend or retract the wand.

Power head and wand has no power. Unit is less than 4 month old.

Hi, I had the same problem with mine and found that if you plug the power head directly into the handpiece (bypassing the telescopic wand) and it worked only proved the problem is in the telescopic wand. The problem as I found was a broken terminal in the end that connects to the powerhead (female socket). As it is a non repairable part means replacement at $100AUS I have had my machine for 3 years and in this time have replaced the both powerhead once and the wand twice within 2 years of owning the machine. The wand has now gone faulty again 4 months after replacing it and consequently Electrolux only warranty spares for 3 months which I think is poor! Its a great machine but a little too delicate even if it is only used for domestic operations once a fortnight! I paid $700 for my Oxy3 3 years ago and wont be buying another Electrolux product due to poor service (customer and product):((

The motorized wand attachment keeps shutting down after 10 to 15 seconds after pushing the red reset button. I've thoroughly cleaned dirt/debris from around motor. Do I need a new reset switch? Thanks,...

either the reset is bad or the motor is drawing too many amps and tripping the reset. Do you have an amp meter? Check the amps being pulled by the wand attatchment against the load recommended by the manufature, this is usually located on a plate somewhere either on the wand or the canister.

I have Dyson animla and the wand stop working....no bloc anywhere

The hose is getting twisted on the machine and that makes it difficult to pull it out.
1) Pull the wand out as far as you can - if you can pull it out completely, separate it from the hose and apply baby powder to the metal rod. Stretch out the hose and unwind it. In the future, separate the wand and unwind/stretch the hose after use.
2) If you can't pull the wand out all the way, remove the u-bend from the bottom of the machine - turn that plastic screw at the bottom next to the gray hose 45 degrees anti-clockwise and take the u-bend off.
3) Pull the hose out from the bottom (don't pull it out all the way - just enough to release the wand) and pull the wand at the same time - separate the wand from the hose and unwind the gray hose and stretch it out. Rub baby powder on the metal rod of the wand and in future, disconnect the wand from the hose and stretch/unwind the hose after every time you use the wand.

Dyson Animal hose collapses when using attachment hose

You have a clog in either your hose or your wand. You need to take off the wand and hose and inspect them.

I am trying to use the quick draw hose on a dyson dc07 vacuum cleaner. I see the yellow button that I am suppose to push but I cannot find the hose

The hose is integral with the handle. If you lift straight up on the main handle while simultaneously pressing the hose release button, the hose and wand will pull out together.
