I tried to hook up the linksy router but it keeps reading error 311 what does that mean.

I am not sure as to where you see the error 311 at but the setup of a Linksys wireless router is fairly easy.
If the router is new out of the box there is little be done for initial connection. If you purchased the router from a friend or it is used, you might want to reset the router configuration to factory defaults. - Reset the router by unplugging the power from the back, press and hold the reset button with a paper clip or small narrow object. -Plug the power back into the router while holding the reset button. -Wait 5 secs before you release pressure from the reset button.
Make sure you have the cable from your DSL / Cabel modem plugged into the "Internet" port on the back of the router. (Almost all models will use DHCP to get an IP address from the modem, some times you must unplug the power from your cable modem and router. Next plug the power back into your cable modem and wait until all the lights on your modem on light up as normal operating. Next plug the power back into your Linksys router. This forces your modem and router to refresh communication with one another.)
To connect your pc to the wireless router it will be different depending on your Operating System (i.e. Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7). There should be a wireless adapter down in the system tray either managed by windows or if you have a dell, hp, compaq, they each have their own wireless management software that has an icon down in the system tray ( Far bottom right corner). For most you can double click on the icon or right click and choose options or properties. This would allow you to maneuver to a "View Wireless Networks" button / tab. From the wireless tab you should see a unsecured wireless network called "Linksys" This should be yours depending on if you live close to neighbors that have out of the box setups as well. Just choose the wireless network with the best signal ( similar to cell phone signal bars), this will most likely be yours. You can double click the wireless network, or click once to highlight then click the connect button. Your operating system may prompt you that your are connecting to an unsecured wireless network, just tell it ok and it will connect.
Once you are connected this link can go into further detail as to how to secure your wireless network.

Please let me know if that solved your problem or if you need more help.

I have no wireless internet. It went out all of the sudden last night. This is an urgent matter as I need it for work. Resetting router does not work, cable modem IS in working order, orange light...

Just to clarify when you say your computer does connect with an Ethernet chord you mean you are able to connect to the Internet? If so, you should be able to reach the management console and reconfigure the wifi by following these steps
Else when you say you reset the router did you try to reset it to the factory settings by holding down the reset button for 30 secs as shown here?

Compatibility with high speed ADSL2 Broadband

Yes, Linksys WRT160N is 100% compatible with ADSL2. Linksys WRT160N is a Broadband router.

you will not be able to use the linksys WRT160N, as an ADSL2 modem router. you should be using an ADSL2 Modem separately and connect the cable from the modem to the Linksys WRT160N. Hope this clarify the doubt.

As is typical with PC's, the best idea sometimes is to reset it to factory default. Afterward, simply change the username/password and in the wireless settings enable a form of WPA security settings. Don't use WEP, it's too easy to crack (within minutes) by someone sitting outside your home in their car. Never hurts to reset the cable/dsl modem either (unless your wife is talking to her mother and you disconnect her).

Linksys WRT54G wireless router not compatible with Aztech modem?

Darvin, gotta love your ISP. Never fear......

if it isn't too much of a problem (knowing you have wireless setup done already), then do a factory reset on your router ** remember to copy the WEP Key if you have, or recall the PASS PHRASE so you won't have to reset all wireless devices ** Reset is located on back, you need a ball point pen to reach the reset switch.

Reset process: unplug, take ballpoint pen & insert into reset switch & plug unit back in. Sometimes tricky, but you should notice green light goes to yellow/orange upon resetting.

RESET or NOT - you want the Linksys set for ::

Connection Type - AUTOMATIC (for automatic discovery)
Router IP Address -

DCHP - ON, Addresses - and allow 5-50 users
(for security, assign the number of DESKTOP + WIRELESS expected users +1, this way you don't get overrun without knowlege)

Take the cable from Aztech ETHERNET OUT to WAN on Linksys. (usually BLUE) (??) not 100% sure as I have the little silver pocket edition of the same Router. - power cycle (turn both DSL modem & Linksys off for 20 seconds. turn on DSL Modem, wait till it's about as ready as possible, turn on Linksys, should only take 20-30 seconds to power up & recognize.

VERIFY SETTINGS: access router -, goto STATUS. you should see IP Addressing, SubNet, DNS1 & DNS2 settings. If you do not, then you have no internet connection.

Setup Linksys Router with COnnection Type: PPoE, you will need your ISP assigned ID & Password. Follow all other instructions properly.

If you still have problems, please contact me at 906-495-1707 or via Yahoo IM or through this website.

Router won't connect to wireless

Can you clarify the question.

Is there a modem (cable or verizon) connected to your router; if so you might need to turn off your modem, wireless router and computer for five minutes. Then turn on the modem, wait 5 minutes, turn on the wireless router wait 5 minutes, and then boot your computer. Also, make sure your computer's network card is set to DHCP, which automatically assigns your computer an ip address from the wireless router.
