Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Certain websites are simply not working. I just reformatted my pc and the problem persists. I have no idea what might be the cause.

I have narrowed it down to a problem where a few websites (most notably microsoft.com and myspace.com) are being somehow redirected elsewhere. Upon doing a Google scan of the suspicious address given me (65.74.135.110) it seems to be originating from a company by the name of Herakles or some other such... I am a bit unsure as to how to proceed, but I know it is not a problem with my browser as I have tried several and indeed even reformatted in a (vain) attempt to fix it. I do indeed have the latest version of Firefox and have also tried IE to no avail. My AVG never caught any whiff of a virus (and I keep it looking consantly) nor has anything else been acting funky. Microsoft being out of my reach means I cannot update jack as far as Windows is concerned and it is getting a bit annoying. Further help or suggestions would be very highly appreciated!

Check to make sure you have no pop-up bloker on. Also, make sure that the sites haven't been blocked out. Check to make sure you are using an up to date inernet browser, eg: Internet Explorer 7, available for download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
Check with your server if this doesnt help. If this browser is incompatible with your system, check this link out for older versions. http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=msie

Dell freezes up after reformat.

i recommend loading in safe mode and uninstalling your graphics drivers and installing the drivers from support.dell.com the reason i say this is because the graphics drivers windows wants to use via windows update occasionally will call erratic system behavior. you can also load in safe mode and go to start>accessories>administrative tools> event viewer. or simply press the windows key and the r key at the same time and type eventvwr and press enter. once there go through the logs and look for red X's or exclamations (can't remember which off hand) and see if you can find out what happens when it crashes.

Need to reformat my NTFS hard drive in my Toshiba L300. Have saved all data, just need to reformat, and CD ROM will not work for XP CD.

If you know what you're doing afterward, in order to format your hard drive simply click the start button, click run and type cmd and hit eneter. Then enter "format C: /fs:ntfs" without the quotation marks. Follow the prompts.

Format the drive and then only install Windows 7 and see how that works. Could be conflicts between files from different versions of windows. If that doesn't work then wipe out the drive again and make sure you restore your laptop to its original factory settings. Windows 7 make not work right in certain circumstances cause its in Beta.

Reformat my desktop

Many computers come with a "restore disc". Otherwise it might have come with a windows disc. If you have a restore disc simply put it in and you should be able to follow the onscreen prompts to simply restore it to the setup it originally came with. If you have a windows disc you may need to go through the on screen prompts to install a frsh installtion of windows. During this process if you read all the prompts carefully you will in fact see an option to format the C drive before beginning the fresh isntallation.

Why did you disable any drivers? Simply plugging in a USB keyboard would allow it to work. I fear that when you spilled your coffee you did more harm than just a 'sticky' keyboard.
