SOURCE: How do i set my Netgear Routers NAT type to open for playing xbox 360 games?
Ok in order to help you resolve this issue I need more information. Is this a newly setup router? Did you setup any type of security? WEP OR WPA these are encryption tools that allow only you to get onto your network.

I assume you know the ip adress of your xbox.
First of all check on your router to see if UPNP is enabled.
Then go to Portforwarding/Port triggering.
Then add custom service
service name: the name of how you call it. doesn't matter really
service type is UDP
start port 88
end port 88
server ip is the adress of your xbox
then apply and make another custom service
name it how you want
service type tcp/udp
start port 3074
end port 3074
server ip adress of you xbox
this should work

Firstly what you need to do, is go here:
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
And choose your router. On the page, look at the first couple of steps.
It will tell you to enter an IP address into your browser (ie
192.168.1.1) and then enter the username and password. Do that until
you get to your router settings. Stop following that guide afterwards,
because it's for port forwarding and not DMZ'ing.
Once you're in the router settings you need to find the "DMZ" page.
Have a look through the menus -- it's probably under "Security", "NAT",
"Gaming and Applications" or something like that.
You will know you've found it when you simply see a box to enter in an
IP, and sometimes a check box saying "Enable". When you find the box,
enter 192.168.1.50 into it. That's it, just save if you can.
Easy eh? Not finished just yet though. Now you need to go to your Xbox.
Go to the last blade, the settings one, and choose Network Settings.
From here choose Edit Settings and choose IP Address. Set it to manual
and use these settings:
IP Address: 192.168.1.50
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: Use the IP address that you typed into your browser to get your router settings up. Normally 192.168.1.1.
Now try to connect. Your NAT should be open. If it isn't, restart both your router and Xbox 360.
I typed this really quickly, so if it's confusing in any parts just let
me know. I can post how to port forward too if anyone wants, but
DMZ'ing is far more effective and easier.
If your DNS fails then do this:
Go to Start > Run and type "cmd". Then type "ipconfig /all". Take a note of your Primary DNS in there.
Then go to your Xbox, settings, network settings, edit settings, DNS Server, manual and use:
Primary DNS: whatever you took note of from ipconfig /all
Secondary DNS: not needed.

You are trying to open the NAT on the router for X-box.
For this you will need to reduce the MTU settings on the router to 1365.
You will also need to trigger some ports on the router.
For this you will need to open the router set up page.
Router set up page is the page where you can change the settings of the router
You have WRT160N router. this router has issues with the firmware.
Try to upgrade the firmware of the router. Firmware is the software of the router.
Download the latest firmware of the router. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the firmware of the router.
Open the set up page of the router and upgrade the firmware of the router. Once you upgrade the firmware of the router, reset the router.
On the router you will find a small reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds. release it. wait for 1 minute. Now unplug the power to the router and plug it back in.
Now you will need to reconfigure the router according to the Internet service provider.
