I would start by using the HP Toolbox utility, this would have come on a cd with the printer (can be downloaded from www.hp.com) use the trouble shooting tab.

Next try Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults.
To restore the factory-set defaults
1
Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Service, and then press
(SELECT).
2 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Restore defaults, and then
press (SELECT).
The device automatically restarts.

If you don't have any joy there i would suspect it's a high voltage problem, which could be caused by a number of things.
1 To start with clean the magenta toner contacts in the printer
2 Clean the EBT, to do this you need to enter the secondary service menu
use the following procedure:
1 Confirm that the device is in a Ready state.
2 Press the button (SELECT) to enter the main menu system.
3 Press the button (LEFT ARROW) and the button (CANCEL JOB) simultaneously.
4 Press the button (SELECT) to confirm 2ndary Service.
5 Press the (LEFT ARROW) button and button (RIGHT ARROW) to navigate to the secondary service menu.
Select clean ETB.
If none of these work, it could be the high voltage power supply, the ETB, the magenta toner motor or gears.

I hope something here helps you

Hi, I've just had a bit of time to research this problem and have found the following (i hope this helps)

This is caused by dust in the scanner assembly. There's a fan right by the magenta laser scanner that blows dust and particulate matter in the air directly on that laser scanner.
Requiring its removal and careful cleaning of all lenses and mirrors. Unfortunately, this is not covered in the service manual. Getting the laser/scanner out is not too bad: Start by removing the printer covers, the rear plate, and the plate on which the DC controller and formatter mount. Remove the four laser/scanner unit corner screws and the single screw for its cover. Be careful to remove the small shutter spring on the cover before removing the cover. Use a strong flashlight to carefully examine the copper-colored mirrors for dust. Use dry cotton swabs to carefully clean all dust from the mirrors and the lenses. Blow dirt and dust from the inside of the scanner box. You will notice that the bottom mirror, facing up, is the one with the most dust.

Indeed, you need to clean the laser scanner mirrors. They get covered with dust, especially the red one, which is on the bottom and thus most susceptible. There is a PDF disassembly guide that will lead you through this, at http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1221679079368+28353475&threadId=1182873 . It'll take you an hour or two, but it solved my problem.

Hp colour laserjet2605dtn unable to print certain colours.

The most likely problem is that the laser writers are dirty. This is not necessarily an easy task but very doable. I have done it a number of times in well under 30mins. I will post a link at the bottom of this that very clearly explains to steps that need to be done. Follow these steps closely and you should be good to go in an hour or so! :)

I have an HP laserJet 2600N Printer Iinstalled

The laser unit is positioned in such a position that the air intake fan draws any environmental dust into the unit and the lens and mirrors of the magenta laser are first to be deposited with this dust resulting in a week laser beam onto the magenta drum , resulting in very light magenta images. Solution if you are technical minded take the unit out the rear ond clean all the laser mirrors and lenses be very carefull. I regularly have a machine in the workshop with this problem , the cleaning of the laser unit can also be a solution to the colour mis alighnment problem.

Red colour fades on both left and right sides of the page. Other colours print fine.

It's probably a dirty laser scanner. The magenta is most pron to this type of problem. Here's a link for instructions. http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/getattachment.do?attachmentId=297096&ext=.pdf

There is an override sequence and it works well. Press the select button (checkmark) to indicate Main menu. Press right-arrow (RA) to select System Setup. Press Select , then RA to Print Quality, Hit select. RA to Replace supplies and hit Select. Now, RA to Override Out and Select. Confirm with Select again. Your 2600n will now run even with an empty toner cartridge.

Problem in colour

If the printer is old, then maybe there's dust on the mirrors that the laser bounces off of. See my step-by-step instructions on how to clean it on my website.

Colors are uneven, too much green on the right side and too much red on the left

The internal optics are dirty. It's a known problem that HP's been ignoring.  More info is here:  http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1202453734788+28353475&threadId=1073731

Detailed instructions are on this page - look for Don Thompson's posting at Sep 15, 2007 23:38:51 GMT and click the papercliip to see the procedure. It's not for the faint of heart.
