Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Hi im new to this......I am having the same problem as some others posted on the 12 June. My red is neally non existent. I have always used HP cartridges. Have had 4 or 5 new ones since problem started about 6 months ago, but its just getting worse. Any advise
I would start by using the HP Toolbox utility, this would have come on a cd with the printer (can be downloaded from www.hp.com) use the trouble shooting tab.
Next try Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults.
To restore the factory-set defaults
1 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Service, and then press
2 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Restore defaults, and then
The device automatically restarts.
If you don't have any joy there i would suspect it's a high voltage problem, which could be caused by a number of things.
1 To start with clean the magenta toner contacts in the printer
2 Clean the EBT, to do this you need to enter the secondary service menu
use the following procedure:
1 Confirm that the device is in a Ready state.
2 Press the button (SELECT) to enter the main menu system.
3 Press the button (LEFT ARROW) and the button (CANCEL JOB) simultaneously.
4 Press the button (SELECT) to confirm 2ndary Service.
5 Press the (LEFT ARROW) button and button (RIGHT ARROW) to navigate to the secondary service menu.
Select clean ETB.
If none of these work, it could be the high voltage power supply, the ETB, the magenta toner motor or gears.

Indeed, you need to clean the laser scanner mirrors. They get covered with dust, especially the red one, which is on the bottom and thus most susceptible. It'll take you an hour or two, but it solved my problem.

u have to clean the laser/scanner assy !
