Then the screen went off but the lights still appeared to be on.I've tried the reset botton and the zen is non responsive to the computer when I plug it in. It's been this way for about 3 days now....Please help me figure out the problem...Thankyou
Try to reload the firmware. download the firmware from creative.com. hold the play button when turn the player on, that will lead you to the recovery mode. chose reload firmware and then connect to your PC. run the firmware downloaded.
mick2a: the screen is gone. you need to replace it.

When this happened to me with my Zez I was able to reset it by pushing the reset button (located in a little hole next to the dock on the bottom of the unit) with a straightened paper clip or other small object capable of fitting in the hole for a few seconds until the unit fully resets. If that doesn't work you can try putting the unit in to recovery mode to reset it by doing this:
Detach the Zen Sleek player from your computer, and ensure that the unit
Connect the power supply to the player (Optional, unless the battery is very
Hold down the Play/Pause button, and then insert
a paper clip into the Reset hole underneath your player, beside the data/power
Remove the paper
clip from the Reset hole. The
Rescue Mode screen will then appear.
After the recovery mode has started, release the Play/Pause button
No, just remove battery then reinsert while holding switch to left. Player will reboot into recovery mode. Select Cleanup (YES) and it will do its stuff then select "REBOOT" and it will start up in normal mode.
If a reset does not work using the reset hole, then try this: First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!
if you have the instruction manual get it and see if theres a way you can reset it. like on an ipod you hold the center button and it reboots much like when you hold the power button on your computer. hope this helped
Apologies if this answer is offensively obvious. Try putting a paperclip or equally small object into the little reset hole at the bottom of the player if you haven't done so already. Mine froze a couple of times and it always worked.
