I wanted to know how to go about adding more memory to my laptop? Also, how do I know which programs are taking up a lot of space and which ones I don't need?

Try a memory manufacturer website & plug in your computer:

PNY:
Capacity PNY Part Number Retail Part Number OEM Part Number 256MB Module 6432SDTYE N256X42OPT N/A 512MB Module 6464TDTYE MN0512SD2-533 N/A 512MB Module 6464TFTYE MN0512SD2-667 N/A 1GB Module 64A0TDTYE MN1024SD2-533 N/A 1GB Module 64A0TFTYE MN1024SD2-667 N/A

HD 'memory' is considered secondary or storage.
In <Control Panel>::<Add / Remove Programs>, it should give you some indication of the size of the programs, as will hovering the mouse over the folder in which the program is situated [not as reliable as it once was as many dlls are stored in windows folders].

I recently took apart my Dell Inspiron E1505 to clean the fan and now it will turn on but has distress lights type flashing on the top of the keyboard. Will not boot. Will not turn screen on. Please help.

Look at your memory again. There are two slots for memory. Make sure that the memory chip you have (if you only have one) is in tha A slot and not the B slot. Otherwise, remove and reseat all of your memory if you have both slots full. This should fix it for you.

Try removing both memory sticks and then booting up with just one installed. The bios should notice a shift in the amount of memory and prompt you to enter the bios.

Let me know if that works.

Adding mor memory

A laptop can only have a single internal harddrive but you can replace your current drive with a larger one. The cost will depend on the size of the drive... goto the dell site and get your drive specs then goto a hardrive manufacturer site like Maxtor and see what size drives are avialble with the same specs ... you will have to backup and transfere all your files and also reinstall all of your applications and OS...
