No Internet, No Emails, NO MEDIA NET, NO EXISTING CONNECTIONS?

All of a sudden, I am unable to access my email or use IE. When trying to download email, I get the message: Cannot connect. be certain that your connection settings are correct, and try again.

I hadn't made any changes to my phone at all when this happened. I have tried to reset the connections, but for some reason there are NO existing connection listed...here's what happens: 1. Tap on Start menu, and then Settings
2. Tap on the Connections tab on the bottom of the screen
3. Tap on the Connections icon in the middle of the screen
4. Tap on "Manage existing connections" underneath MEdia Net??
5. Tap on the "Edit..." button to edit the MEdia Net connections??? THERE IS NO MEDIA NET LISTED!!! I have the option to make a NEW connection from scratch but I don't know how.

In NETWORK MANAGEMENT, I have My Work Network, MyISP Name, ATT ISP, and My ISP only as options. I've never seen that. Do I need to clear everything out and start over from the beginning? Please help!

I am in the US. Why would I be unable to find anything listed under any network? When I get to the page that says:

"Tap and hold and existing connection for more options", there is NOTHING listed under Name/Number.

See if you've got a Settings-Connections-Connection Setup control panel under settings. If you do, run that and it should automatically provision your settings.

What may be another issue is under Settings-connections-connections-advanced-Select Networks. In the top pull-down, if it has "The Internet" instead of "My ISP" or "Media Net," you'll get interesting connection issues.

Hope that helps..........

Ok if that's teh case you really need to contact AT&T for the correct settings for this unit or if you want try resetting the settings of the phone and reconfigure it with the correct configuration.

    Good luck.............

You need to set up the correct settings for your phone. Call your phone provider (eg Vodafone, Orange,Telecom etc.). The customer support will guide you step by step in setting the internet to the old connection settings.
Some provider also offer downloadable setup
Let me know your location and your phone provider to find contact.

If AT&T is the service company for your mobile phone, then you need to call AT&T. They have a dedicated line, with someone following step by step, and is toll free or local call.
Post also your location and I will find the number (USA AU FR UK etc.)

Some company also provides a download, even easier, but I need to know where you are (and your mobile phone company.

In this case you need to connect to a local router as a wireless local network, am I correct?
Check first that Wi-Fi is turned on in wireless manager.
Then you set a new connection, using your wireless manager.
To start wireless manager tap the Wireless Manager icon on the Today screen, or tap Start >Programs > Wireless Manager.
Then chose type for connection wi fi, ensure you know your router encryption key.
Here is the user manual check page 152 for the whole procedure.
See chapter 10.3 on how to make a wireless connection.

Things are much different if instead you want configure a bluetooth connection with your computer, or if you want to join a GPRS/G3 network.

Let me know if you need more help.

Simply go to Wireless manager, turn on wifi, it will display network list, your router network should be among them.

It is not connection Wizard, it is wireless manager.

    Ginko Jul 18, 2008

And regarding step-by -step you find it in the user manual check page 154 chapter 10.3. Even with pictures!
That is all you got to do.

Get into my Emails they seem to be lost to me

First things first: you must gain access to your existing email account by typing that into the first open field. If your current password is refused when typed into the password field, you should be prompted to "reset password" or "forgot password?". Follow those prompts and reset your password to regain access to your existing emails. Once that account is opened you may then create a new and different email address from the account homepage. However, your present email address will still receive emails sent to that address. Only mail addressed to the new email address will be sent there. You can use one address for your primary or important mail and the other for personal mail.

Check home email

Hi, Christine -

Without knowing what kind of email service you have, we are at a disadvantage. I've included how both client and webmail work and also offer a workaround for non-webmail access.

If you have 'webmail', then you can check your email from anywhere in the world with internet access. IE: gmail: just go to gmail and sign in with your gmail address and your password. I am assuming, however that your question is not that easy!

If you have non-webmail and you use a client at home like Thunderbird or Outlook, I assume you go into your email client and all your email has been downloaded to your client. Under those circumstances, obviously, you are not able to check this online elsewhere than your home. UNLESS...

You sign into your Verizon account online with your Verizon (example - could be Fairpoint or any other internet service that gives you your email address) and your email is now accessible anywhere you have an internet connection. Keep in mind that you HAVE TO CHECK THAT YOU WANT YOUR EMAILS TO STAY ON THE SERVER ONCE THEY ARE DOWNLOADED or your emails will not be resident on your online account once they go into your pc client at home.

There is another way (and preferable imho). You can create a gmail account and have all your emails from your internet service provider account FORWARD to your gmail account. Then, you can go into gmail anywhere in the world and all your email will be there. You don't even have to worry about making sure emails stay on your server (thereby saving space and not having to clear out your old emails online at your server site)

Hope this helps. Peace. Michele

Unable to receive and send emails

Sounds like a firewall problem. of antivirus has blocked it.
try turning off windows firewall and antivirus and test the mail.
You could also try the Server authentication settings on the mail accounts.

look at IE Tools
is Work offline is it ticked? if so untick it
Make sure that the default browser is IE.

Open Internet Explorer browser.
From the menu bar, click File. (If menu is not shown, press "Alt" + F button on your keyboard)
Uncheck "Work offline" by clicking on it.

Probable solutions to Hotmail email access problems

  • Verify the internet connection - Is it indeed working? Try loading other web sites like Yahoo.com.
  • Delete the temporary internet files / cache of the browser. You can do this through the tools and settings section.
  • Change the HTTP settings - please refer Hotmail sign in problem for details.
  • Use a different browser - I suggest downloading and installing Google Chrome.
  • Your account may be blocked. Hotmail suspects you may be using the account to send spam and hence disables access to it. Please contact the Hotmail support staff or wait for a day and check again.
  • If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista, download and install Windows Live Mail email program - please refer that link for step by step instructions. You then need to set up your Hotmail account - for screenshots and walkthrough read Windows Live Mail settings for Hotmail accounts.
This is a lengthy process, no doubts; but has many advantages. You maintain a copy of the emails on your local computer which protects against accidental online deletions and account hacking and you can access your emails even without an active internet connection.

Understanding and using Microsoft Outlook Express - Download and Install What is Outlook Express? - Free email client Outlook Express is an email client. In non-technical terms, it is a program that lets you send and receive emails from your computer. It is one of the most popular email clients in the world simply because it comes free with Internet Explorer (and the Windows operating system). Now Internet Explorer comes bundled with Windows which is the most popular operating system and it soon became the browser of choice on most desktops since it had some great features when compared to its nearest competition, Netscape Navigator (at that time). So as Internet Explorer became popular the usage of Outlook Express as the default email client increased to make it the leading email program on the Internet.
From where do I get Outlook Express? - It's a free download If you don't have Outlook Express, you can simply download the latest version of Internet Explorer. Outlook Express email client will be installed on your system once you install the browser.
Outlook Express Homepage - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/oe/.
What does Outlook Express actually do? Outlook Express allows you send and receive emails from your computer. The good thing about Outlook Express (or any decent email client from that matter), is that it lets you store the sent and received emails on your system. Thus, Outlook Express acts like a emailing center via which you send, receive, store and collate emails.
What is the difference between Outlook Express and Outlook? Outlook Express, as I mentioned, comes free with Internet Explorer or Windows operating system. It's a lean and mean email client. Microsoft Outlook on the other hand is an email client but comes at a price. To justify the cost of the software, Microsoft Outlook has tons of features and functionalities which are not present in Outlook Express.
How is Outlook Express different from an online email service? The difference between Outlook Express and an online email service such as GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo! etc. is that it lets you browse, read and compose emails from your computer even when you are not connected to the net. To download emails, you do need to connect to the Internet. Email messages are actually stored on your system, so, you can still read the emails you have received and sent in the past. An online email service works ONLY when you are connected to the net.
Another great feature of Outlook Express (and any other email client worth its salt), is that it lets you read and write emails at your leisure. Let us say you are traveling from Philadelphia to Chicago. You download all your emails via Outlook Express in Philadelphia and then board the flight to Chicago. Now when you open your laptop on the plane and start Outlook Express, you can not only read emails but also write replies and compose new emails. Outlook Express will store all these replies and new emails on your system. Now when you arrive at Chicago, connect to the Internet and open Outlook Express, the program will send the stored email messages.
Outlook Express also lets you segregate email messages into folders. For example, all new emails are stored in the Inbox folder, the emails which you have sent to people will be stored in the Sent Items folder and any emails that have yet to be sent are stored in the Outbox folder. In addition to these three folders, Outlook Express has two more folders. These are the Drafts and Deleted Items folders. The Drafts folder stores email messages that you have composed and saved while the Deleted Items folder contains all the deleted emails. [Note: in order to completely delete the emails from your system you need to empty the Deleted Items folder.]
You can also create folders inside the Inbox folder to further segregate email messages.
FYI, you can configure Outlook Express to segregate incoming email into different folders using rules and filters. For example, potential spam can be junked directly into the Deleted Items folder.
What kind of email accounts can I use in Outlook Express? Outlook Express can be used for any POP3 or IMAP email account. POP3, which stands for Post Office Protocol 3, is a set of rules with which one accesses and downloads emails. IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a set of rules with which emails are assessed.
If you have a web site hosted on a server, most likely the hosting package would come with a few POP3 email accounts. Thus, yourname@yourdomain.com would most likely be a POP3 email.
Can I receive emails from online email services in Outlook Express? Online email services such as Gmail provide free POP3 access to the email account; you should read configure Gmail account on Outlook Express if you want step-by-step instructions on how to do that. Hotmail used to have this feature but it has since discontinued it. Other popular online emails services might charge a small fee for POP3 access.

Unable to see emails once logged in

You should be able to see those emails after hitting F5 from the keyboard a couple of times.

Also, try clearing your cache:

For IE, click Tools, Internet Options. In the general tab, under Delete browsing history, delete ALL.

Further, flush your DNS. Open a command prompt, then type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Internet explorer not responding

I will tell you the easiest way to fix this issue.

Get yourself some blank CDs or a flash drive.
Find a computer with Internet access (such as your local library, at a friend/relative's house, work, etc.).
You had to have access to the Internet to post this problem...go back and use the computer you used to access this site.
Download the installation file for Internet Explorer then save to your disk or flash drive.
Uninstall IE and re-install it using the file that you have downloaded.

While you're downloading Internet EXPLODER (YES I MEANT WHAT I TYPED), you should also download Firefox (free Web browser) and install it too. I promise you'll hardly use IE anymore and Firefox is more secure than using IE (as it is a component of Windows making you more vulnerable to security risks).

Well, if you still have the problem or ever do in the future, I hope this helps anyone who sees it.
