Model: DBRH197/1979 I bought a DVD from America, and it says it cannot play because i have the wrong region code. How do i change the region code?

TRY THIS:

1) Turn on the dvd player
2) Press the eject/stop button on the dvd player (not the remote) to open the tray, and leave it open!
3) On the remote press 98790 (if done right, a message will appear stating that region has been changed to 0)
4) Enjoy your region free dvd playeR

tHAT Model is supposed to be multi-region...this is how you make it region free. Worth a try. Good luck

Question Can I change the region code on my player so that I can play DVD / Blu-ray disc from other regions? Answer South Africa is region B for Blu-Ray DVD and Region 5 for DVD and finding the procedure will be difficult as international copyright legislation prohibits manufacturers from providing instructions for changing the region code.

Where did u bought this DVD player?US,Canada,and Mexico?The DVD disc. used NTSC region format.Asia,Europe,Africa,and the Middle East.The DVD disc. used PAL region format.They can't be mix or it will not play as u find out.If u move in and out to another region of the world.U must have a regions free DVD player to play either NTSC or PAL regions.

region codes are as follow. Region 1 North America, Region 4 South America, Australia, Region 2 Europe, Region 5 Asia Major,Africa,Region 6 Asia Minor, Probably your DVD is from another region....hope this helps

Check the back of the dvd player and it will have a small sticker with a small picture of a globe (or earth) and it will have a number being one through to six, this will determine what region discs you can play in you machine. Ill list the regions and their codes, i hope this helps.

Region 1 - The U.S., U.S. territories and Canada.

Region 2 - Europe*, Japan, Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland.

Region 3 - Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong .

Region 4 - Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific. Islands, Caribbean

Region 5 - Russia (former USSR), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia

The solution depends on where you bought your dvd player, certain dvds are released in north america or japan, etc, and they have different 'region codes' - meaning they can only be played by devices that have a matching code. To clarify, if you bought your dvd player in america, chances are you can only play dvds released in north america. Short answer...yes, would you like to invest what would likely be days learning the process? There may be a mod ship out there somewhere, but unless you are willing to modify the PS3 in someway that would likely void any warranties, then you're going to have to find a DVD for your region. A mod without a chip would involve installing linux in addition to the OS that the playstation comes with. I'm sure the process has gotten easier since I last checked, but I found it too painstaking.
