Changing operating systems on an Acer 7520 - PC Desktops

Posted by on

My acer 7520 comes with Vista pre installed, i hear lots of complaints that Vista hogs too much resources and downgrading to xp speeds up this laptop considerably.

    1gb ram

    120 gb hard drive

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core tk55 Processor

Is it possible to Format my hard drive and install xp ?

    thanks for your help

When I hear Change OS, it means a different vendor, to: UNIX [flavors], Windows [XP, Vista...], Sun.

If you mean UPgrade? We would very much like to know what is prompting the question.

Basically, get the upgrade CD and run it. IF you change OS types as assumed above, the software that you have [documents maybe too] will need to be changed. Generally not considered worthwhile for novice users.

How to restore accer to factory settings

Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer.

To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the netbook.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. In order to recover the system using Acer Recovery Media, an external optical disc drive is required.
  1. Restart the netbook.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F2 key repeatedly.
  3. Press the Left Arrow key until you've selected Boot.
  4. Ensure that the external optical drive is plugged into a USB port.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to set the first device to USB CDROM.
  6. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  7. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  8. Press the F10 key and then the Enter key to save the changes and restart the netbook.
  9. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  10. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.

  11. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media you may purchase recovery media online. If your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery please contact Acer Support

Setting up a new hard disk and operating system on an Acer Power SC

There should be more than one disk, as the other will be drivers, all you need to do is press F2 or Del to get into your pc's bios settings and change the first boot device to your cd drive, insert your acer disc into the drive, then save the bios settings, restart the pc ,then, when prompted on screen to press enter to boot from cd; do so.

You should then follow instructions to set up windows on the 'C' drive as is default and it may need to reformat in NTFS.

Memory upgrade a Acer Aspire 7520 Notebook

It will be nearly the same, even if the memory is different.
Download the manual by clicking on it. when you open PDF page put number 98 (page number75 in document) in the page number box at the bottom of the document.
It will open a page with instructions and a picture of the memory door. If you replaced memory on a laptop you should be able to repeat procedure, only big difference is memory specs and position of RAM door.
