I have a side by side kenmore, #53522300 and neither side is cooling. All fans, motors, and air flow ducts seem to be working properly. Also I have taken off the back cover of the freezer and the coils were warm> What will cause this?

Here's is a little background and a couple of thoughts. Turning to the background, first. The heater/air conditioner system in your 02 uses the same set of ducts located in the instrument panel. In turn, those ducts are linked to what can be considered miniature version of the cooling system in the engine compartment (yes, this is a greatly simplified version). The whole system, in fact, is run off the main heater/ac system, however, it has a separate series of controls so that it can function properly.

When you dial a temperature, a signal is sent to the heater/cooling system telling the system to open a series of baffles, directing a flow of heated or cooled anti-freeze/coolant to the proper "radiator" behind the face of the instrument panel. In turn, the fan system activates a series of doors behind the instrument panel so that the flow of air is directed through the "radiator" and into the passenger compartment. This is essentially the heater/cooling system work.

Now, you say that the driver's side is hot, while the passenger side is cool. What has happened is that the flow of heated coolant that is supposed to heat the passenger side of the duct system is blocked. Since there is no heat to warm the air that is flowing past the fins of the "radiator," the flowing air remains cool to cold, depending on the weather and ambient temperature. The result is that one side of the car remains cool. And, since the other side of the "radiator" is normal and the air is heated, it is warmed.

That is the most likely explanation for this.

Another possibility is that the baffles themselves are stuck and the coolant that is supposed to be directed to the passenger side is not being directed their.

Either way, your technician has some work ahead.

Not detailed description of your Refrigerator Problem?
1) Frost free system (Heater, Timer, Drain heater) properly not functioning.
2) Evaporative Fan not working (Check Air flow satisfied or not)
3) Compressor properly not working.
4) Thermostat (1,2,3 ) problem. (Rotate high and check)

Common problem here, The heater motor resistor has to be checked, (located in air-flow ) between motor housing and ducting to heater assy ! Usually 4/5 wired componant located for cooling purposes in air duct governing the heater motor voltage ! Good Luck

The condenser fan motor at the back near the compressor is either dirty or not running at proper speeds. Clean the coils for air flow over compressor and if the fan is not running replace the fan.

Look for a blocked duct or a bad fan motor in the freezer. The cooling is done in the freezer and the cold air is circulated via ducts and a fan. No air flow= No cooling in frig. Long shot could be a light not going off when door is closed, seen that a few times in 20 years...

The indoor blower motor is sometimes a 3 speed motor.The heat usually works on low or medium speed.But the a/c is usually on high speed,this gives greater air flow across the evaporator coil to give you better cooling,also better air flow at ducts.These speeds are usually wired through a relay in the inside unit (air handler).They can be changed.If you go to thermostat and put the fan switch to "on" the blower should operate on "high" speed.With the fan switch set to "auto"the operation will determine the fan speed.Hope this helps. does your fan blow? freezers have a fan that pushes cold air to the fridge side if fan is bad freezer will run extremely cold and fridge won't cool down and since frige won't cool down thermostat in fridge doesn't tell compressor to stop

Make sure the evaporator fan is operating. Since the fresh food side is cooled by the air flow from the freezer side. Check for blockage of the air duct from the freezer to the fresh food side. Set the temp control half way. Over adjusting this setting can cause problems with cooling. If I can help you any farther, let me know.

3 most common things that cause this are a defrost problem (will notice frost build up on back freezer panel), bad evaporator fan motor (should hear fan running in the freezer), or bad damper (vent to the fridge section). No. This is usually a sign of poor venting or air flow. It's possible that the coling fan is not circulating the air properly due to a problem with it or maybe the air vents are blocked. Also, there needs to be a couple of inches around a countertop model on all sides - especially the back - to ensure air flow. Look for buildup on the back vent grille. You can listen for the fan to be running and feel the air flow while it's running. If it's weak or not there, it needs inspection / service. A lack of air flow can cause the magnetron to overheat and be damaged. If this is a built-in model also check your air filter, air duct work and outdoor vent flap. Write back if you still have trouble.
